Solve the problem that Windows 7 forces the backup of D disks (or other disks) when creating System Images

After installing the new system, everyone will like to back up the new pure system on the CD or other hard disk partitions. We only want to back up the system partition (usually drive C), but when we run the built-in system backup for Windows 7 to use common system images, sometimes the other disks except the C disk are also marked as the system disk, for example:


In the C drive, the D Drive is also marked as a system disk, and the check mark cannot be changed. In this case, the problem occurs: the backup space is used by disk C + disk D. The figure shows 54.78 GB, which is obviously not what we want.

The reason for the above phenomenon is: The D disk is installed with software or something related to the system. For example, we are used to selecting the installation path of the software on a disk other than the system disk (such as a d disk) or a system restore such as a ghost image. In this case, Windows 7 backs up the system disk and software disk by default, because the software is associated with the system. Therefore, Windows 7 regards software disks as part of the system.

Solution:

Method 1: After the system is reinstalled, back up directly. In this case, the system disk is used by default. Some people like to install patches and back up the backups after installing the driver. Use the update provided by the system to install the patch. Do not use software such as 360 to install the patch. (If yes, install software such as 360 on the system disk ). The driver must also be installed on the system disk.

Method 2: If the software has been installed on another disk, the problem can be solved after the software is detached. Note that some software prompts a restart when you uninstall it, so it must be restarted before it takes effect (such as 360 ). You can also remove all other stored items on disk D and leave only the installed software to minimize the space used. In this way, when you create a system image, the disk C + D is not used much.

After installing the above two methods, you can achieve the perfect result shown in (I uninstalled all the software ):


Method 3: I found this on the Internet, but I did it but failed. I also wrote it for reference.

Hide all the partitions that do not want to be backed up as images but are forced to be hooked by the system. In this way, the system is simply cheated to create a pure C-disk image. The procedure is as follows:

1. Hide partitions first (right-click Computer Management> storage> disk management> right-click the partition to be hidden> change drive letter and path> Delete> OK ).

2. Create an image again in the backup and restoration to see if it has changed? After that, restore the original partition (right-click the hidden partition in disk management> change drive letter and path> Add> select the original partition number from the drop-down list ), the data in the partition will not be lost at all, and the security is perfect.

3. If a virtual memory paging file is created for a hidden partition, disable it first. (Control Panel-system security-system-advanced system settings-performance-settings-advanced-virtual memory-change-remove the hook for automatic management-single choice, no paging file-settings-OK ).

As shown in the following figure:


Although an untitled drive is available, the system disk ID of drive D is not removed. You may need to restart the disk because the system prompts that the disk is still available before it is restarted when the drive letter is removed. The desired effect can be achieved only after the disk is restarted and cannot be identified. But I have no lab.

Well, of course, you can use the restoration tool that comes with Windows 7 to create a system image, or use other software such as gghost to create a system image. It is much stronger than the built-in compression ratio and operability. For example, if you place the system image on another disk, it cannot be restored when the system is not turned on. But gghost can be used in DOS, so we will not go into details here.
