Some things to do after installing ubuntu14.04

Preface:

I have been using ubuntu14.04 for a while, and I feel that there are many improvements compared with the previous version. But there are still some minor problems that need to be solved by yourself. I. Input Method Configuration

Ubuntu14.04 comes with the ibus Input Method Framework. Although you can enter Chinese characters, there are still many bugs. Here we recommend the sogou PinYin Input Method Based on the fcitx Input Method Framework.

The configuration process is as follows:
1. Install the fcitx framework

sudo apt-get install fcitx

 

2. Download the corresponding Deb installation package from the official website.

3. Double-click Deb to go To the Ubuntu Software Center and click Install

 

4. Choose system Settings> language support> keyboard input mode system, select fcitx, and click apply to the entire system.

 

5. Restart

 

Note:

1. Do not uninstall the built-in ibus, which will cause system crash :)

2. ubuntu14.04 you do not need to add the PPA software source. If you cannot download fcitx, enter the following command to update it.

sudo apt-get update

 

Ii. Solution to heat and power consumption problems of ubuntu14.04

Because ubuntu does not support dual-graphics switching, the set display is turned on, and the heat and power consumption remain high. In earlier versions of ubuntu, you can change the configuration or use bumblebee (Bumblebee). We recommend that you use Prime to solve this problem, which is convenient and fast!

The solution is as follows:
1. First, use the Administrator permission to change/etc/modprobe. d/blacklist. conf and add the open-source nouveau driver to the blacklist. The Code is as follows:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Add blacklist Nouveau at the end of the file

 

2. Install the driver and prime on the terminal

sudo apt-get install nvidia-319 nvidia-settings-319 nvidia-prime

 

3. After installation, you also need to install an NVIDIA prime dual-graphics card switching indicator to switch the graphics card by clicking the mouse in the system tray without using commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install prime-indicator

 

4. Restart your computer after installation. An NVIDIA logo indicator is displayed in the upper right corner. Click qucik switch graphics. In the displayed dialog box, click OK to restart the X server.

 

5. After logging on again, you can find that the indicator in the upper-right corner has changed to the intel icon, indicating that you are currently using the Intel dashboard. This is a success.

Iii. wps Installation and Use

I believe many people are still not suitable for ubuntu14.04's libreoffice suite. It is worth mentioning that with the release of the Kylin release, WPS has also released its Linux version, which is a good news for children who want to completely use Windows! The installation process and related solutions are as follows:
1. Download the corresponding Deb installation package on the official website (RPM belongs to the Red Hat series release version)

2. Go to the corresponding download folder and execute the corresponding command for installation:

sudo dpkg -i wps-office_8.1.0.3724~b1p2_i386.deb

 

3. If an error is reported, install the following two software because WPS depends on them.

sudo apt-get install cabextractsudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

 

4. The installation is successful. If WPS is enabled, the system prompts that the font wingdings and wingdings2. is missing .... Download the corresponding font and provide a link here. If it becomes invalid, you can find the corresponding resources online.

4. other small settings

1. Change the boot brightness. Go to/etc/rc. Local and setEcho 9> Add/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness to exit 0 and remove the comment # of exit 0. The changed file is as follows:

The corresponding number is 0 ~ 15, representing different brightness. I used to be 9 :)

 

2. workspace settings

In order to make ubuntu14.04 more suitable for the masses, ubuntu14.04 has only one workspace by default. But as a programmer, I certainly need to work in multiple workspaces. You can perform the following settings:

Choose system Settings> appearance> behavior, and click Enable workspace. In this way, four work zones can be used. If you want to customize the number of Work zones, you can use the unity tweak tool.

 

3. Mouse blinking

The mouse will flash after the installation of ubuntu14.04. This is because Ubuntu identifies two monitors on the computer, including the built-in and unknown monitors, and turns off the unknown monitor to solve the problem. Solution: Go to system Settings> display, click unknown display, and select close. The problem can be solved.
