You can also use a Web browser to browse most newsgroups.

Note: In Windows Vista, Outlook Express is renamed to Windows Mail. If you are using the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, you will see Outlook Express. Both of these e-mail clients provide a news-reading program.

To use the Windows Mail or Outlook Express News reader for the first time, you must add the News command to the Outlook window. After the initial setup, you can use this command to open Windows Mail or Outlook Express, and then start the news reader.

Do the following:

Add the News command to the menu bar or to the Go menu

On the Standard toolbar toolbar: A column that contains buttons and options that you can use to execute commands. To display the toolbar, press Alt and press SHIFT+F10. , click the toolbar Options arrow.

Point to Add or Remove buttons, and then click Customize.

Click the Commands tab.

In the Categories list, click Go.

Drag the news command onto the Outlook menu bar, and then release the mouse button.

Drag the news command onto the Outlook toolbar, and then release the mouse button.

Drag the news command onto the Go menu. When the menu displays a list of commands, point to where you want the command to appear, and then release the mouse button.

Start the news reading program

On the menu bar, toolbar, or go menu where you added the news command, click News.

The first time you start a news reader, Windows Mail or Outlook Express opens and requests that you set up a newsgroup account. The Internet Connection Wizard can help you connect to one or more e-mail servers or news servers. You will need to obtain the following information from your Internet service provider (ISP) or local area network (LAN) Administrator:

To add an e-mail account, you need an account name and password and a service to send and receive e-mail.
