Plan your own database

After a database is built, we may feel that we do not know how the database is made up. There is always a feeling of being in the air. In fact, the learning process is always gradual step by step. Without the previous learning, we will not find such a problem. After having some knowledge of Access, we can now explain how the database is made up by creating an empty database.

When we want to do something, we usually think about it first and then do it again. When creating a new database, you also need to think about what the database is for, what data information it stores, and what is the relationship between the data? On the one hand, it is absolutely indispensable to know which data is necessary, otherwise it is impossible to establish a database to obtain information. On the other hand, it is necessary to know which data is unnecessary, putting it in the database will only increase the database capacity, but it does not play any role, so we need to remove the redundant data. In this way, the database can meet the needs of data retrieval and save data storage space.

Create an empty Database

Now that you have learned about the issues you should pay attention to before creating a database, let's start from the basic creation of an empty database and understand the structure of the Access database.

In Access 2000, creating an empty database is actually very simple. You just need to click the "new" button in the database toolbar in the upper-left corner of the Access window, and a "new" dialog box will pop up on the screen.

After this dialog box is displayed, we do not select the "Database" tab as we did last time. Instead, we select the "frequently used" tab and double-click the "Database" icon with the left mouse button on the "frequently used" tab.

The "create database file" dialog box is displayed. In "file name", name the new database file "Empty Database" and store it in the "example" subdirectory, click "CREATE" to save the new database file. Now we are not using the Database Wizard, and naturally there is no question to answer.

Main objects in the Access database and Their Relationships

We know that before building a house, we must first have a ground cover, and then we can build a house on the ground according to the design drawings. Finally, people will live in. Now we have an empty database, which is equivalent to having such a "land" in Access. Now we can build a house. The database created using the database wizard in the previous lesson is a "House" that has been built, but there is no "data" in it. In Access, the so-called building materials are the main objects in the database, it includes "table", "query", "form", "Report", "page", "macro", and "module ". These objects are responsible for certain functions in the database and collaborate with each other so as to build a database.

In the database, "tables" are used to store data; "queries" are used to search for data; people obtain data through "forms", "reports", and "pages; "macro" and "module" are used for automatic data operations. In fact, for a database, the most important function is to obtain data in the database. Therefore, the flow of data among various objects in the database has become our biggest concern. In order to clearly arrange various structures when establishing a database in the future, we should first understand the role and connection between objects in the Access database.

As a database, the most basic thing is to have a table and store data in the table. For example, in the "Address Book" database, you must first create a table and then input the contact address, phone number, and other information of a person into the data table, so that the data source in the database is available. With this data, you can display them on the form. This process establishes a connection between the data in the table and the controls on the form. In Access, this process is called "binding ". In this way, you can obtain the data actually stored in the table through various forms on the screen. In addition, properly placing controls and patterns on the form makes it easier for us to operate and understand the meaning of Data representatives in the database. In this way, the data flows from the table to the form, and the data in the database is communicated between computers and people. For example, in the address book database, a record in the database is displayed on the form using an automatic form, and the record operation buttons on the control form are moved before and after the table, you can see information about other records. Now, the relationship between tables and form objects in the database should be clear. We can draw a table. As for other objects in the database, empty them first. After learning several other objects, we will complete the charts that represent the data flow in the database. In the future, we will be able to draw the data flow between various objects in this way, which is good for creating a complete database.

Conclusion: In this lesson, we establish an empty database and combine it with the content of the previous lesson, describes the issues that need to be paid attention to when creating a new database and the usage and relationships of each object in the database. If you want to know
