Recently, Intel announced its cooperation with Samsung and cooperated with the Limo Foundation to develop a new operating system Tizen, which is translated into tyze, lu shouqun, Chairman of the Chinese open-source alliance, once again raised the question "optimistic about MeeGo as a dark horse" and thought that MeeGo, developed by Intel in partnership with Nokia, is the current Tizen, however, Tizen's partner switched to Samsung. Is that true? Can Tizen or MeeGo be a dark horse, as said by Mr. Lu? Of course, in this article, I still discuss the two representative markets of smartphones and tablets, this is what Mr. Lu mentioned and is most concerned about in his previous articles related to MeeGo.
I really don't understand why Mr. Lu cares about the differences in system names. It is estimated that even intel, which leads MeeGo at the time, will not be concerned. Otherwise, it will not be called Tizen if it cooperates with Samsung and the Limo Foundation. What people really care about is that, since MeeGo, working with Nokia, has failed to bring its chips into the smartphone and tablet markets, how can Samsung, a heavyweight partner, do not do it? What is it? It doesn't matter to anyone.
More importantly, as Mr. Lu said, Because Tizen is a product of the cooperation between Samsung Bada's own system, Intel's previous MeeGo and Limo, or a mix of blood, that is to say, Tizen injects many new things including MeeGo. According to the mathematical logic, MeeGo is at best a subset of Tizen. Therefore, in essence, even if the name is still MeeGo, this MeeGo is no longer the current MeeGo. This is actually clear and understandable. Tizen is a brand new system that draws on MeeGo, rather than a simple name change. Tizen cannot be equivalent to MeeGo. So even if you want to talk about the dark horse, it should also refer to the new Tizen. This is because the name, substantive content, and partners have undergone great changes. As a matter of fact, it can be understood that MeeGo, as an independent operating system, has been stuck in the dark horse.) It has been integrated into the new Tizen system, it should also be Tizen.
According to this logic, the dark horse that Mr. Lu talked about next should actually be Tizen. Although Mr. Lu listed N's advantages of Tizen, according to the author's understanding, it is very simple to say that, compared with the previous MeeGo, the partner changed from Nokia to Samsung and added a Limo Foundation. However, the weakness of MeeGo still exists in Tizen, which also increases uncertainty.
First of all, at MeeGo, Intel was only dedicated to supporting MeeGo, but now it has formed a consortium with Google, another industry leader. Recently, Intel announced its support for Google's Android system, as we all know in the industry, Google's Android is already the largest system in the global smartphone market. If the future goes smoothly, Android-based manufacturers will use Intel chips in their smartphones or tablets, and Tizen is as hard as MeeGo, it is hard to say how much intel will invest in Tizen? How long can it last?
Similarly, Samsung, another heavyweight partner of Tizen, is not to mention that it is the main manufacturer of Google Android, a partner of Microsoft WP, and its own Bada system, although Samsung has been saying that it wants to develop its own system to reduce its reliance on Google some time ago, the reason is that it is still worried about Google's future development strategy in Android, there will be a biased focus on Motorola after the merger, but recently, Eric Schmidt, Google director, said that the Android ecosystem is the most important, google will not favor Motorola mobile, or any other Android manufacturer. Android vendors need strong competition, and Google will not favor any side in ways that people worry about.
Moreover, Samsung is a heavyweight Android partner. How can Google easily offend Samsung? This is common sense. This does not mean that Google and Samsung will soon jointly release the brand new SamsungGalaxyNexus. From this point of view, Samsung's so-called self-developed operating system, including Tizen, is more than just a chip, at least for a while, the focus is still on Google's Android. After all, Android has established a strong position in the industry.
Therefore, from the dominant vendors of Tizen, since they still have more options, in addition, these choices are far better than Tizen in terms of brand influence, competitive strength, partners, and ecosystem. Tizen is more of a final chip in them, that is to say, it is not a last resort, it is difficult to get out to participate in the market competition, just a product that has nothing to do.
