System Security: Windows Service backup

In a LAN environment, network management often attaches great importance to the backup of user data files on Windows server hard disks, while ignoring the backup of the status information and service data of various services provided by Windows system, such as IIS service, DHCP service, DNS service, etc. These windows services often play a very important role in the LAN, such as using IIS to set up internal enterprise websites, DHCP service is used to uniformly allocate TCP/IP configuration information for LAN users. Once these services encounter problems, they will seriously affect users' normal office work. Therefore, the network management system should also pay attention to the backup of Windows Services. Once some Windows Services have problems, you can use the backup files to restore them immediately, so that they can be prepared.

Windows Service backups are generally divided into two parts: status information backup and data backup. To back up the Windows service status information, you need to manually back up the corresponding items in the registry. Generally, you can back up all Windows service status information at a time. to back up the service data, you need to perform the backup separately, you can use manual tools, services provided by yourself, or third-party software.

Backup service status information

The status information of various Windows Services is generally stored in the "hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetservices" project in the registry. The network administrator can back up the status information of Windows Services by backing up this project.

In the normal running status of various services provided by Windows Server, click Start> Run. In the run dialog box, enter the Regedit command and press Enter, in the Registry Editor dialog box, expand the "hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetservices" project. The status information of various Windows Services is stored in the "services" project, and the network administrator only needs to back up the content of this project. The backup operation is very simple. Select the "services" project in the Registry Editor and click the "File> export" option in the main menu bar to bring up the "Export Registry File" dialog box, name the backup file, specify the storage path, and click "save" to back up the Windows service status information.

When the status information of some services is faulty, you only need to double-click the backup file and re-import the backup status information to the Registry.

Service Data Backup

For the backup of service data information, the network administrator must perform a separate backup operation. Only one backup of Windows Service data can be completed at a time. Taking the IIS service, DHCP service, and disk quota as examples, I will introduce how to back up their data separately.

1. IIS service

A backup and restoration tool is built in the IIS server to quickly back up and restore data on the local IIS server. In the "Internet Information Service" Console window, right-click the IIS server and choose "all tasks> Backup/restore configuration, in the "Configure backup/restore" dialog box, click the "Create backup" button (1), and then name the backup file in the "Configure backup" dialog box, if you want to encrypt the backup file, you can enable the file encryption function. Select the "encrypt backup with password" option, enter the file encryption password, and click "OK, this completes the backup of IIS data information.

When the IIS server suffers a problem due to data damage, you need to restore the IIS data information. In the "Internet Information Service" Console window, right-click the IIS server and choose "all tasks> Backup/restore configuration ", in the "Configure backup/restore" dialog box, select the backup file you need and click the "Restore" button. If the backup file is encrypted, enter the password, to restore IIS data. In addition, you can use third-party software to back up IIS server data, such as the IIS backup wizard and IIS export utility.

2. Dhcp Service

The DHCP server also has built-in backup and restoration functions, and the operation is also simple. In the DHCP Console window, right-click "DHCP server name" option (2) and select "backup" from the menu that appears ", in the "Browse folder" dialog box, specify the path for storing the backup file, and click "OK" to back up the data of the DHCP server.

Once the DHCP data is damaged and needs to be restored, right-click the "DHCP server name" option again, select "Restore" in the pop-up menu, and specify the path of the backup file, after you click "OK", the Windows system will stop the DHCP service and restart the service to restore the DHCP data.

3. Disk Quota

To enhance server security, network management uses the disk quota function provided by windows to limit the disk capacity of each user. However, if the disk quota items configured by the network administrator are lost due to some reasons, manual recovery is very troublesome. Therefore, the network administrator must back up these disk quota items in advance.

The backup disk quota project is very simple. Taking the disk quota project for backing up drive C of Windows server2003 as an example, right-click the drive C drive letter and select the "attribute" option in the pop-up menu, switch to the "quota" tab, and click the "quota items" button below. The "quota items" Management dialog box is displayed. Click "quota> export" (3 ), in the "file name" column, name the backup file, and click "save" to back up the disk quota. The backup of the disk quota items of other drive letters is the same as above and will not be described in detail.

Restoring the disk quota of disk C is also simple. In the quota project management dialog box, click the "quota> Import" option, specify the preceding backup file, and click "open, in the disk quota prompt box, click "yes" to restore the disk quota.

The preceding section briefly describes the backup and restoration of data of several Windows Services. The backup and restoration operations of data of other Windows Services are also very simple, please be aware of and practice in your daily maintenance work.
