Windows cache write failure

Data cannot be saved for this file. This may be due to your network connection error or computer hardware. Please save the data separately. After it is closed, a dialog box similar to the files under system32 will pop up, as if many files are *. log files, the system cannot be started, but the fault disappears after the memory is replugged.

Fault Analysis

Windows uses a special subsystem to support disk-based operations. For example, it can temporarily cache write operations on disks, then, wait until the system is idle and then perform the corresponding operation. This technology, called "Write cache", can improve the system performance. However, this function may not be enabled by default.

Write cache is a working mode that can temporarily cache write operations on the disk, and then execute corresponding operations when the system is idle, which can improve system performance. The reason for writing cache errors is that the disk subsystem and memory subsystem are faulty. You can check whether the hard drive lines, hard disks, and memory stick are working properly. You can use replacement methods. In addition, make sure that the motherboard driver is properly installed and the hard disk parameters in the Bios are correctly set.

Do you want to know how the "Write cache" option is set? Open Device Manager, expand disk drive, right-click any drive icon below, select properties, and switch to the Policy tab. Here you should see two options: "optimized for fast deletion" (everything is directly written to the hard drive) and "optimized for performance improvement" (written to the cache ). The first option allows you to quickly disconnect a device from a computer, such as a usb flash memory, you do not need to click the "safely delete Hardware" icon in the taskbar to directly disconnect these devices from your computer. If both options are gray and unavailable, it means that the "Write cache" option has been enabled for your disk drive by default.

In Windows XP, the "write cache failed (delayed write failed)" prompt is displayed, which tells you that there may be some problems in the delay of writing to the system. Although this is not a fatal mistake, it deserves your attention.

The following are some common causes of "Write cache failure ":

1. The reason for the disk drive itself. This is especially true for scsi or raid drives. Some raid drive drivers report a false message in the Windows Xp operating system where Windows Xp Sp2 is installed, telling users that "Write cache failed ". So you should install the latest driver for your disk drive.

2. Data Line reasons. Some wrong or damaged data lines, especially external USB cables and firewires, can cause this situation. If your data cable is too long, or the data cable is connected to an unqualified usb hub, it will also cause write cache failure. Finally, it may be because you have a udma drive that requires an 80-pin data cable, but you use a 40-pin data cable.

3. scsi termination error. Although this rarely happens on scsi devices that use the self-terminating technology, we must take it into consideration.

4. Media error. This is the most serious possible situation, in other words, the disk drive is broken. If you can use the smart (such as smart & simple) software to obtain the disk drive statistics, you can use this information to determine that the disk drive has encountered a mechanical (physical) fault. You can also use a tool called gibson researchs spinrite to help you diagnose media errors, but it takes quite a long time for the software to fully detect the disk drive.

5. The drive controller does not support udma mode. Although the udma mode can enhance the disk performance, some errors may occur if the drive controller is not supported. This is rare, mainly on the newly installed hardware device (this hardware device supports the udma mode ), you can solve this problem by upgrading the bios or restoring the hard drive options in the bios to the default "Automatic Detection" mode. For example, if a device is set to udma mode6 mode, you can set it to mode5 mode.

6. Driver controller problems. I have encountered a problem where the usb controller conflicts with other hardware devices and the write cache fails. If your system has both long and short pci slots (64-bit and 32-bit), try removing the usb controller from the long pci slot. Some older pci cards do not support this type of slots.

7. Memory parity error. This usually happens after you add a new memory. The cause of this error is that your new memory stick is inconsistent with the memory type supported by the motherboard, or the memory itself is faulty. (Memory problems may cause other errors, such as random deadlocks)

8. The largesystemcache key value in the registry is incorrect. This is rare, usually on machines with ati display adapters installed with a memory greater than MB. The Registry on these machines has a key called largesystemcache.

This key value is used to manage the memory capacity allocated by the system to some core processes. If the key value is set to 1 (this setting can enhance the performance of machines with a memory greater than MB ), data Errors and write cache failures may occur in some systems. In this case, change the key value to 0.
