Technology management: management, management, and determination!

When you first see the word "Technology Management", you may feel a bit confused: technology is technology, management is management, how can there be a "Technology Management?

Note: The technical management here does not refer to the positions of CTO and CIO (I personally think that CTO and CIO should still be purely managed), nor is it a project manager, it refers to a position with both technical and management functions. Technical Management is generally a 5-to-5 Management ~ A development or design team of 30 members.

As for why we need such a job, can we simply use a manager to manage it? Below is a comment I 've taken from the Internet (Source: http://feiye.blog.51cto.com/126688/40022 ):

We often hear the following arguments.

30People over the age of years are still coding for nothing.

The technology must be switched to management at a certain stage.

After the technical manager is done, no code is needed. The work is handed over to the "below" person.

In our company, this ignorant opinion is very popular. So it is oftenLayers and spam leaders.

Although a little radical, I believe many people share the same feelings !!

Let's talk less about it. After briefly introducing "Technical Management", let's take a look at how to implement "Technical Management ". Due to the large scope of technical management, it is estimated that there is no problem in writing this book if you study it in depth. Of course, this blog does not have the ability to write this book. You can only combine your knowledge, experience, and thinking to summarize it, it should be a reference.

The Technical Management I summarized is very easy to remember and understand. The three-character classics of the Chinese national tradition are three words:Management, management, and determination.

Management: control and discipline

"Management" refers to control and discipline. Literally, "management" is a process of "pressure. The main purpose of "management" is to enable the team to "comply with laws, and comply with laws and regulations". Of course, this is just an image to borrow, not to say that "management" should punish the team.

The main scopes of "management" are: planning, rules and regulations, and baseline. These are the principles of team work and behavior, it can ensure that all team members are moving toward the same goal on the same road. If there is any deviation, there will be corresponding rectification measures, of course, including rewards and punishments.

The corresponding PMP management fields include scope management, time management, quality management, and team formation in human resources management.

Reason: Straighten out and sort out

From the literal point of view, this is a bit of top-up taste, which is exactly the opposite of "pipe". Of course, they are not in conflict, so they can finally achieve the goal. In one sentence, "Li" is "Creating a better working environment for the team ",

Why is it necessary? There are many "risks, difficulties, conflicts" and other adverse factors in project operation and daily work. These adverse factors will delay the team's progress, combat the team's morale, and weaken the team's combat effectiveness, to reduce the efficiency of the team, managers are required to "handle" the problem ".

The main scope of "rationale" is to solve risks, difficulties, and conflicts, so that the team can eliminate interference (internal and external ), focus on "doing the right thing and doing the right thing.

The PMP management areas are: communication management, risk management, Team Incentive and conflict management of human resources management.

Some so-called managers are only obsessed with the power pleasure brought by "management", while ignoring the importance of "management". When encountering difficulties or conflicts, find a scapegoat, or you can drop the following sentence: "You want to take the initiative XXXX, XXXXX yourself ......", This is an unqualified "manager ".

"Decision": decision and decision

After talking about "management" and "management", some friends may have doubts as much as possible: What you mentioned earlier is no different from general management, so what is the difference between "Technical Management" and "general" management?

The difference lies in the word "decision. "Decision" means decision-making and decision-making, because resources are limited in actual work, time is limited, and team opinions may be difficult to unify ...... And so on ".

Imagine: if a "manager" doesn't understand technology, can he/she make technical decisions? This is the key to "Technical Management": the technical management personnel must understand the technology and be more technical than the team members.

It is estimated that many of my friends have seen this decision-making method:

1) Shoot your head: there is no reason to shoot your head. You can just snap one of the shoes;

2) Listen to the voice: see who listens to the most voice when discussing in the team;

3) depend on the team: Find the best person in the team or the best person in the relationship to make decisions"

........................................ .................

I believe you don't need to talk about it. Everyone knows what this decision will do and what it feels like to this decision maker :)

Of course, the word "Understanding" does not mean that your Java syntax is better than your team members. Linux APIs are more proficient than team members, but at a higher level "Understanding ", for example, you need to know whether to use Java, C ++, or a new technology based on the actual situation.

How is it? Have you been inspired by the three-character management explanation?

Of course, the actual technical management is much more complicated. If you are interested, you can study it in depth. PMP is recommended in terms of theoretical knowledge, which is very suitable for entry-level management. For more information, see my blog PMP: "making a good fortune" and changing your life.
