After the latest upgrade of Debian sid, if X uses XAA acceleration and Composite, it is possible that gxine/totem video players cannot play videos. This can be solved using EXA. It may be for Intel graphics cards only.
Disable the XAA option in the Device segment of xorg. conf, and add:
Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
