The difference between vsphere client and vsphere Web client

The vsphere client is a client running on the Windows desktop that cannot be run in a Linux environment, and after vsphere5.0, VMware is gradually weakening the role of vsphere client, Many advanced features, such as enhanced vmotion, are now implemented only in the Web client.

VMware's design trend is to replace vsphere client with Web client, so this example is managed using Web Client

Please see the detailed differences

Vcenter Management Objects

Its logical structure, such as

Sign in to vsphere Web client browser requirements

Web Client official support Ie,firefox, chrome, version requirements are as follows

This example uses the Firefox browser

Enter the IP address of the Https://vcenter server in the browser address bar: 9443, note that the prefix must be HTTPS (encrypted HTTP link), followed by the default Web client port number 9443 when installing vcenter, to enter the login interface

Because VMware uses its own security credentials and is not recognized by the browser, add an exception here

Download the browser plugin to install, after the download is complete this file

Log in again after installation

The login name is the SSO account set when Vcenter was installed

[Email protected]

Password: admin_123

And then it went into the Web client interface.

Adding a host to a data center cluster

Set up the architecture of the entire virtual data center first

Set up a data center

Add a host to the data center

Enter the account password that was set when the ESXi host was installed

The default 60-day Test license is used here, which is then registered for activation at a later time.

Lock mode is disabled by default and the next step is complete

New cluster

Enter a name for the cluster, the advanced features listed below (Drs,ha,evc, vsan) are not created, and then click OK to complete the cluster creation

Advanced features will be introduced in a follow-up

DRS: Collects resource usage information for all hosts and virtual machines within the cluster and suggests or migrates virtual machines based on specific health conditions

HA: If one host fails, all virtual machines running on that host will be restarted immediately on the other hosts in the same cluster

EVC: Enhanced vmotion to migrate between heterogeneous CPU hosts

VSAN: Centralize management of internal disks and flash memory devices for x86 servers for virtual machine shared storage

To move a host into a cluster

Assigning licenses to each functional component

Go back to the Vcenter homepage and click on the "license" icon in the right sidebar

Licensing Systems in VMware products

In general, this is a modular license centralized management system, different keys corresponding to different licenses, and licenses can be attached to any corresponding assets, high-level license has more features, some additional solutions can be added to the Vcenter management platform as a plug-in, but require additional licenses

Here, we activate the ESXi host and vcenter license first

Enter the lisence of a vsphere exsi host, a vcenter server lisence

If it is a production environment, you need to purchase a genuine license

In the case of a test environment, a 60-day Test key can be requested on the VMware website

Where the EXSI host is authorized by the number of CPUs, that is to see how many CPUs your license support can be managed by vcenter, and vcenter is authorized by the instance, that is, the maximum number of Vcenter servers per license support

Assign to individual components after the key is imported

Open the Vcenter Server System tab in the Assets tab, select a Vcenter instance, click All actions, and in the drop-down menu, click Assign License

Assign the license you just imported, the above evaluation License is the system comes with a 60-day Test license, with all the advanced features

Similarly, assign a license to the EXSI host

The license is assigned and you can set up the virtual machine in the data center.
