This chapter uses a lot of knowledge of discrete mathematics. In a broad sense, formal methods are used to solve the problems in the field of software engineering, including the establishment of accurate mathematical models and the analysis activities of models. In the narrow sense, the formal method is to use formal language, formal specification description, model inference and verification method. The formal method is mainly used to ensure the correctness of the software.

This chapter mainly introduces three kinds of formal methods, including methods based on temporal logic, Z Language and analysis method, Petri net. These three kinds of exercises with discrete mathematics are very close, and they are more understandable.
