I learned how to replace init with upstart in Ubuntu 6.10 before I switched to KUbuntu. The main scripts are in/etc/event. d. This gives me the impression that although Ubuntu uses upstart to replace init, it is still compatible with init.

Today, the system needs to be directly started to the character interface, that is, kdm is not started.


Try creating an inittab file and write a row id: 3: initdefault: according to the previous habits. Save the file and restart it. The result shows that the file is still started to the desktop without any changes, does inittab not work? Enter runlevel in the terminal to check the current status and display N 3, which indicates that inittab has an effect. Why?

Remove the inittab you just created, restore the system to the previous state and restart it. Then run the runlevel check to display N 2, which indicates that the default runlevel of Ubuntu may be 2, this is in conflict with my previous common sense. It seems that I need to learn it again.

Check the content in/etc/rc2.d to rc5.d respectively, and kdm is started. This is inconsistent with other linux releases. Generally, runlevel 3 is the Multi user mode, that is, you can directly log on to the character interface, while runlevel 5 is the Multi user mode with GUI, that is, you can log on to the graphic interface.
