The latest version of Strobe provides a more comprehensive view of DB2. With Compuware's rich understanding of DB2 products and long-term experience, strobe and iStrobe also play a key role in effectively controlling MIPS usage and identifying possible cost savings.

Compuware configurationnasdaq: CPWR) provides a series of enhanced improvements to its Strobe 4.1 and iStrobe 4.1 products, helping customers save costs by increasing their visibility into DB2 applications. DB2 applications often consume most of the expensive CPU time. Strobe is the cornerstone of the Compuware MIPS management solution, which helps customers quickly and effectively find ways to reduce costs.

Tim Grieser, vice president of the IDC project at a famous research institution, said in the Compuware-sponsored White Paper optimize mainframe systems: "The MIPS consumption of mainframe applications is a constant concern of management. MIPS management controls mainframe costs by locating power sources to optimize and avoid problems ."

Combined with iStrobe 4.1, Strobe 4.1 provides a more comprehensive view of DB2 performance, enhancing the MIPS management solution for Compuware. Strobe not only provides detailed information about where and how DB2 runs, but also provides insightful rectification suggestions to help customers delay or cancel expensive hardware update plans.

The new version of Strobe is based on Compuware's rich understanding of DB2 products and long-term accumulated experience. These products include the industry-standard File-Aid for File and data management, the world's leading mainframe application troubleshooting tool Abend-Aid, and a comprehensive set of developer productivity tools Xpediter.

Compuware's MIPS management solution proactively controls IT costs through performance evaluation and Fault Determination. With the MIPS Management Solution of Compuware, the IT department can reduce inefficient applications with lossy performance and excessive CPU usage.

Rose Rowe, vice president of mainframe strategy at Compuware, said: "Better Management of MIPS consumption is one of the easiest ways for organizations to minimize hardware and software costs for large hosts. DB2 is generally responsible for increasing MIPS consumption not in the plan. Strobe 4.1 provides more detailed DB2 information, which is necessary to effectively control MIPS usage and determine possible savings ."

In addition to providing new support for DB2 stored procedures and triggers, Strobe 4.1 also provides performance details, including running time data such as the number of GETPAGES, and key information for database management personnel tuning applications. If the parallel capability of DB2 to run one transaction on multiple CPUs is realized, Strobe 4.1 can provide comprehensive multi-thread parallel execution details. For demanding distributed data tool applications, Strobe also helps performance analysts to centrally review key performance data through user ID, user transaction, and/or user workstation filtering.
