Jenkins is a open source continuous integration tool written in Java. The project was forked from Hudson through a dispute with Oracle, which claims the right to trademark the Hudson name and ha s applied for such a trademark as of December 2010.


It means that Jenkins, formerly known as Hudson (Sun Development), branched out from Hudson in 2010. Because Sun was acquired by Oracle, the latter claimed to have Hudson's trademark ownership, the former forced to do so. The branched Jenkins will continue to take the open source Road, while Hudson may be used for commercial purposes, both of which are continuing to develop.
