Windows 7 and XP have the same folder programe files and Windows, and if installed on C disk, a folder with the same name will cause the system file to be overwritten by another system's file, causing one of the systems to not function correctly. What is the solution to make the two systems co-exist? There are more ways than difficulties, one of which is described below.
Note: There are similar methods on the Internet (basically copying each other), and many people (including himself) tried unsuccessfully, its 1:program files and program FilesCommon Files folder or in the C-packing directory, its 2: After the installation of Win7, Cannot get XP menu, cannot use XP system.
The method described below has passed the test to ensure success!
Small series that the XP and Win7 installed in the same partition is actually very boring, just see so many people copy posts, the Repeat, can't help but come out to say the right way.
First, the rationale: Change the XP installation path so that XP programe files and Windows are installed in a folder in C disk, rather than under the root directory, so that you can avoid conflicts with Win7. After installing XP, then install Win7 to C disk.
Second, the key step: Change the installation path of the XP installation disk. Modify the BCD menu to rename the Boot.ini file.
Third, step
(a) Modify the XP installation files. XP needs to be modified with two files: Winnt.sif and Hivesft.inf files.
1. Modify Winnt.sif file
Locate the Winnt.sif file from the I386 folder in the XP installation CD (or mirror), extract it, open it with Notepad, and find Targepath= "Windows" modified to targetpath= under [Unattended] entries XPWindows ",
Add under [Unattended] entry
Programfilesdir= "C:xpprogram Files"
Commonprogramfilesdir= "C:xpprogram FilesCommon Files"
Profilesdir= "C:xpdocuments and Settings
and then save.
As shown in figure:
2: Modify the Hivesft.inf file
The same method extracts the Hivesft.inf file under the I386 folder and opens it in Notepad. Find Default_profiles_dir= "%systemdrire%documents and Settings", modified to
Default_profiles_dir= "%systemdrive%xpdocuments and Settings"
and then save.
As shown in figure:
PS: In order to quickly find the content to be modified, you can use Notepad "edit" menu, "find" function, search the above string can be.
3, the above 2 modified files into the original ISO to cover the original file, and then save. If you prefer to install XP on a CD-ROM, the new ISO engraving will be made.
(ii) Modify the BCD menu and rename Boot.ini
1, with the above steps to do a good CD-ROM installation XP system, completed, and then put the Win7 CD, began to install the Win7 system.
PS: Install xp,c packing directory or have a Program Files folder, you can delete it, because it is the system processing input method left.
2, after the installation of Win7, open the hidden option, in the C-packing directory to find the boot.ini.saved file, renamed it Boot.ini
3, the following code into a batch processing, with administrator rights to run. After restarting the computer, there will be an XP menu, the menu XP row first, and the default startup.
Bcdedit/delete {ntldr}/f/cleanup
bcdedit/create {ntldr}/d "Microsoft Windows XP"
Bcdedit/set {ntldr} device Partition=c:
Bcdedit/set {ntldr} path NTLDR
Bcdedit/displayorder {ntldr}/addfirst
Bcdedit/default {ntldr}
Bcdedit/timeout 9
Note: If not afraid of trouble, can be in the Win7 command line, run the above several commands.
