. NET My Services is a collection of XML Web services that makes it easier to integrate the process of existing information warehouses (silo). According to Microsoft, this service allows users to control their own data and information, protect the security of personal information and provide a new level of ease of use and personalization capabilities. From a developer's perspective, this service provides a platform-independent way to access your users ' information.

More closely, there are two development methods that use the. NET my Services. First, we can use Hailstorm-in-a-box to create our own information warehouse, and everyone learns this from the PDC. Second, we can use other people's services in our own applications, and most of us who use this system will be moving in that direction. Over time, large host providers may provide. NET my services, which we can use in our own programs.

Services provided by. NET My Services

The current sdk--is the first version after renaming-the PDC contains 8 of the 14 services that have been developed and will be distributed to developers for testing (or play?). )。 These services require SQL Server SP1 and some soap processors, for example, Soap Toolkit 2.0 or. NET to run.

mycalendar--If you are familiar with Exchange date objects, you recognize this. It also allows for selective updates, so the flight can adjust your schedule depending on whether the flight is available, or your boss can add a meeting to your schedule.

mycategories--This is a collection of directories similar to Palm Pilot that can be used to organize data in a data warehouse. For example, you might use a home or work directory to mark a contract or agreement.

mycontacts--This service works the same as the Exchange contract list. If you save a phone number on your phone, you can use this number's shortcut key on your home phone or see it on your Palm pilot.

myfavoritewebsites--This service provides more functionality than your favorite folders on your browser. It can manage where the information in the warehouse goes and how it is sent. It also provides basic functionality: Log in one place and check your favorites.

mylists--It's hard to explain what the service will ultimately offer. Perhaps a shopping list of simple data storage services? We have to wait and see.

myprofile--This service stores all your personal information except for payment information: name, title, and ID number, your home address, your favorite color. You can also save your photos.

myservices--you can think of this as a user's security toolbox. It allows the user to give other people access to a particular service. For example, if you walk into a store and want it to use your personal information to send you something via email, you can use your WAP phone to sign in and give them access through the service.

mywallet--This is actually today's Microsoft Wallet, except that it uses soap differently. It deals with credit cards and bank information.

Why the fear of Microsoft has led to the advent of the Sun Alliance

Last week, Sun's Scott McNealy and Microsoft's Steve Ballmer stopped arguing over their competing Internet user licensing schemes, which are Sun's liberty Alliance (Free Alliance) and Microsoft's passport. The final confrontation between the two was completed by Ballmer, who told people at a big Gartner it conference in Florida that the competition between Microsoft and Sun had not really started, but was only possible because of the existence of passport and Sun's liberty Alliance doesn't even have a standard. I've thought about this before: Both sides of the competition--including AOL--seem to be moving in its own way--and need to sit down in a neutral posture to resolve these controversies. We don't need to compete on a simple number of programs that automatically enter passwords for users to access Web services and E-commerce sites--and the confusion that comes with this competition.

This is a technical issue. However, this may not be entirely a technical issue. Though it's about the competition between the--liberty open system and Microsoft's closed systems--but it's a different thing: it's entirely a matter of technology-related fear of Microsoft's hegemony. Let me explain.

If Microsoft is able to access the list of its passport "member" clients, what else can prevent it from using these customer contacts to benefit itself?

For example, if a credit card company uses a passport and its customers start visiting their bills through Microsoft's licensing service, what can prevent Microsoft from developing a relationship with the middleman and then start a competing credit card business that is tightly connected and windows Or are Microsoft Money integrated together? Apply this idea to mortgage, insurance, and brokerage business, and you will see how serious the threat is.

Companies that spend years and sometimes hundreds of millions of of dollars to build their customer connections may find it a suicide to expose these links in any way to Microsoft.

You might think this could be done through a contract-Microsoft promises not to take advantage of it in the midst of everyone's advantage. There are two questions (a) No one believes Microsoft (b) These contact information is so tempting that it is hard to imagine Microsoft can withstand it. Maybe people think of passport as a temptation island.

Look at the Members of Liberty Alliance, have you found a trend. They include companies with huge user databases, such as American Airlines, Bank of America, Cingular, ebay, fidelity Investments, GM, Intuit, Sabre, Sony, Sprint, and United Airlines.

Liberty Alliance may be able to allow companies to decide who they want to share their customer lists with. While this may seem to reduce the benefits of a single username and password combination, it directly addresses the competitive issues that people do not want to see.

Create such "user-empowerment Alliances" (a subset of alliance companies that work together) so that members of Liberty Alliance can place their customers as "friendly" as possible.

The companies that the user chooses as their authorized provider have the conditions to create an online mall for their customers. In fact, the process may be like a collection of online stores in its Amazon.com, or a flyer program that joins hotels, car rental companies, remote distribution companies, and credit card providers.

But unlike Amazon, these online stores are able to reside on their own sites and servers, only sharing specific information (such as user authorization, credit card numbers, and shipping information).

So when Steve Ballmer to belittle the possibility of Sun's Liberty Alliance, I hope he's not just thinking about technical issues or technical services. Alliance represents a large group of companies to express their great fear that Microsoft could become a competitor. It's not a technical problem at all.

WEB services facing fragmentation?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the advent of Sun's Liberty Alliance last month, we were able to realize that Sun was finally going to rival Microsoft's Internet philosophy.

As in response to Microsoft's "Net,sun" release of the Open Network environment (Sun one), the Free Alliance (Liberty Alliace), led by Sun, was set up to counter the release of Microsoft HailStorm, which has now officially released. Net my Services. Like my Services, Liberty Alliance (its website is projectliberty.org, not libertyalliance.org, and the latter is Jerry Falwell website) presents a standard format for storing user personal information-address, credit card number, date, and more. This format will be independent of any single computing device and the information stored in it will be used for all internet transactions.

My services and Liberty Alliance are critical for Microsoft. NET and Sun one, and. NET and a are the two Web services architectures that are dead rivals. Microsoft appears to be producing my Services in large quantities soon, while Liberty Alliance is still in the discussion at the Conference table. Of course, this is a sign that Microsoft is already ahead of the Web service, but in the long run, I don't think it's important. We see two different worlds where Java programmers Create Enterprise JavaBeans bundled in XML, just as visual Basic, C + +, and the fast-approaching C # Programmers create managed components on Microsoft's side. Not many programmers will be renegade and take refuge in the other side. And each side needs a scenario like hailstorm to start their Web services, because real-time user authorization and enhanced electronic wallet functions are the basic part of the next wave of E-commerce.

The interconnection between the two worlds is a key issue--my Services-liberty Alliance's disagreement underscores the problem. In both scenarios, a user-controlled "identity confirmation" service replaces the user in a specific format to account for or collect data. It would be a disaster if the Internet split up to support only my Services and sites that only support Liberty alliance. But that's very unlikely. Think of both Visa and MasterCard credit cards, most of which are supported by both types of cards.

But the level of interaction between the identity service and the E-commerce site will be much more complex than the credit card checks and payments. For example, when you reach a music site, if you have been authorized, you will automatically log in and your previous music purchase order and the music you have purchased online will be free to play, then you can also get a list of music you have not bought. But if there are two different ways of identifying and two ways of recording that historical information, then the next generation of E-commerce sites will have to bear a heavy technical burden to support both approaches.

We can speculate that both Microsoft and Liberty Alliance plan to extend their identity verification program from the customer's scope to the enterprise so that employees can trade online with customers, partners and suppliers. I repeat, two parallel worlds have their own stage. Through its Active Directory service interface, Microsoft plans to add its Active Directory server software to the LAN. Accordingly, we were able to anticipate that Liberty alliance would drop the Active Directory and use Java naming and directory interfaces to plug into Sun's iplanet directory server or Novell Directory service.

You might want to ask why Microsoft and Sun just can't get along and agree to a similar identification standard. Both sides are hysterical about inviting others to join their e-commerce "union"-but that's just a little noisy. The real motivation is to add your own proprietary privileges to each scenario. After all, consumers must pay a price for the use of identity services and vendors need some way to differentiate them.

It is unrealistic to expect Microsoft and its rivals to use the same solution to avoid competition. But we can ask that as these programs evolve, their standards should be integrated to ensure the most basic interconnection. Within the enterprise context, an xml-based interconnect scheme has surfaced in the Directory Service Markup Language (directory Services Markup Language), This language is a standard developed by Bowstreet and ensures the creation of a standard form for exchanging local directory information. But the concept of customer identity included in my Services and Liberty Alliance is too new for the XML community to handle. But we have to exert constant pressure. Any enterprise that has a consumer-oriented e-business business will be thrilled by the benefits of customer contact with identity recognition services. and making the interface between these services as easy as possible is a part of this benefit.
