Three network connection modes of Vmware
(Bridged, Nat, host-only)

VMware supports three types of networks:

  • Bridged (Bridging Mode)
  • NAT (network address translation mode)
  • Host-only (host mode ).

Bridged (bridging mode ):
In this mode, the virtual system is like an independent host in the LAN, which is equal to the host computer in the network, you must treat it like other real machines in the LAN (such as assigning the network address, subnet mask, and gateway required by your LAN ).
The relationship between a virtual system in bridged mode and the host machine is like connecting two computers on the same hub.
The virtual system can access the host computer and other computers in the network of the host computer. If you want to use VMware to create a virtual server in the LAN to provide network services for LAN users, you should select the bridge mode.

NAT (network address translation mode ):
In this mode, the NIC of the virtual system is connected to the VMware network adapter vmnet8 Nic of the host computer (after the host computer is installed with VMware software, the two NICs VMware network adapter vmnet1 and VMWare network adapter vmnet8 are automatically added, check it in "network connection" of the host computer ). If you want your virtual system to connect to the external network, this mode is the simplest. The virtual system can access the external network without any network settings.
The relationship between the virtual system in Nat mode and the host computer: the host computer is equivalent to a router with DHCP enabled. The virtual system is an actual machine in the intranet, obtain network parameters through the DHCP service of the vro.
The virtual system can access other computers in the network where the host computer is located (or vice versa) and can exchange with the host computer.

Host-only (host mode ):
In this mode, the virtual system Nic is connected to the VMware network adapter vmnet1 Nic of the host computer. By default, the virtual system can only communicate with the host computer, which is also the meaning of the Host-only name. In this case, two machines are directly connected through twisted pair wires.
If you want to use VMware to create a virtual system isolated from other machines in the network and perform some special network debugging, you can select the host-only mode.

VMware supports three types of networks: Nat, bridged, and host-only.
In Nat mode, the virtual machine's Nic is connected to the host's vmnet8. At this time, the system's VMware NAT service acts as a router, responsible for sending the virtual machine to the vmnet8 package for address translation and then to the actual network, then, the packets returned from the actual network are converted and sent to the virtual machine through vmnet8. VMware DHCP service is responsible for providing DHCP services for virtual machines.

In bridged mode, a virtual machine is directly connected to the actual network like a real computer, without any connection to the host machine.

In host-only mode, the virtual machine's Nic is connected to the host's vmnet1, but the system does not provide any routing service for the Virtual Machine. Therefore, the virtual machine can only communicate with the host machine, but cannot connect to the actual network.

Solution to VMware wireless network configuration in Windows 7

For original reference, click here

It is absolutely possible to experience it in person.

Let's talk about my machine configuration: Windows 7 Chinese family edition, 64-bit system, DELL laptop, virtual machine Windows Server 2003 Chinese Edition SP2
My network adapters are as follows:

Dell wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card

Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport Adapter

RealTek PCIe Fe family Controller

Prerequisites for successful networking:
First, the device manager must contain VMWare virtual Ethernet adapter for vmnet1 and VMWare virtual Ethernet adapter for vmnet8 (in fact, only 8 is required, and 1 is not required ). And no problem is displayed.
Second, in the Control Panel \ network and Internet \ network connection, the VMware Bridge Protocol must be checked in your Nic attributes (note that yourPhysical NicInstead of the attributes of the virtual network card, the virtual network card can not be checked.) 3

In addition, the system service does not change the three essential services that VMware continues to start by default.
If there is a problem with the above settings, you only need to re-run the installer and choose to fix the installation. The general problem will be solved..

Detailed steps for setting up Virtual Machine networking: (The following settings should be run as Administrator)
1. Open the Start Menu, all programs, VMWare, and virtual network editor.
2. Open the NAT tab, set the vmnet host drop-down menu to vmnet8, and write down the following gateway IP address. For example, my name is 192.168.32.2.
3. Open the DHCP tab, select vmnet8 from the list below, and click the Properties button in the lower-right corner of the List to write down the start IP address and end IP address. For example, my options are 192.168.32.128 and 192.168.32.254.
4. Shut down VMware and virtual network Editor, run vmware workstation, change the hardware of the virtual machine, and set the NIC running mode to the second (NAT: used to share the host's IP address
5. Start the Virtual Machine. For example, if my computer is a Windows Server 2003 Chinese version, open the Control Panel \ network and Internet connection \ Network Connection
6. Change the TCP/IP attribute in the local connection property and select to use the following IP address. Enter the IP address in the IP address field, in other words, from 192.168.40.128 to 192.168.32.254, select either of them. I chose 192.168.32.202. The subnet mask is automatically set to 255.255.255.0. The default gateway and the following DNS are the IP addresses that have just been recorded on the NAT page. For example, my IP address is 192.168.32.2.
7, open the browser, enter the http://www.baidu.com/, can access the Internet.

My situation is quite special. I have two virtual machines and use proxy.xxxx.com for unlimited Internet access.

One: 192.168.32.202 Database Server

One: 192.168.32.203 application and front-end server

When 203 is different from 202

Configure one more DNS in 203, with an IP address of 202

After that,

Internet can be accessed through proxy, but the Internet cannot be connected to the database. Otherwise, the Internet can be connected,

Solution: click "advanced" next to the proxy. In the case of exceptions, the IP address of your database server is not OK. enter the name of the database server and OK.

So you can connect to the database and connect to the Internet on 203.

Hope to help you.
