The Internet has brought us great convenience. Many excellent products, as Zhang Xiaolong said, are trying to attract users through the greedy and crazy nature. A user accidentally consumes a lot of time on these products, but the user's benefits are far less than expected. How to properly use these Internet products is worth pondering.

Let's talk about my experiences and practices.

IM
I was an IM intensive user about two years ago. Alibaba trademanager is open every day and has joined many groups. When there is any message in the group, the reply always responds quickly. At that time, I used a software statistics and found that trademanager was used for at least three hours in a day. This statistics really gave me a fright, and then made the following adjustments:

1. Quit unnecessary groups. From more than 30 groups to about 10. If you feel that you are not able to help yourself, you can leave without any loss. The only thing you need is courage and determination. I retired from a group and was asked to talk to the leaders. Fortunately, I convinced the leaders. (Now I think that I was too tender at the beginning. A better way is to set this group as unacceptable and don't remind me .)

2. Some groups may be difficult to return or occasionally need to relax. aliwangwang has a very considerate setting: only receive and don't remind me. In this way, the initiative is in your hands. Occasionally bored, chatting is good. It is helpful to clear the necessary feelings, especially for groups with many mm characters.

3. Only some very important groups, such as those related to security and stability, will retain the reminder function. In this way, when a major fault occurs, you can promptly learn and troubleshoot it.

4. The next step is:Always online, but always invisible.Because of work needs, opening aliwangwang is still helpful in many times. In stealth mode, you can take the initiative in your own hands. My colleagues will call us or call us for urgent matters. Messages on trademanager can be processed asynchronously.

5. In addition, all pop-up reminders and advertisements can be completely filtered out using Mac trademanager and will never be disturbed.

In short,Take the initiative to use IM instead of using IM. The same is true for QQ and Gtalk. Zhang Xiaolong's wish is great: it is best that no one can use it. My understanding of this sentence is: it is better that no one is wasting a lot of time, and most of the time should be spent on valuable communication or consumption of valuable information. I hope this will be realized as soon as possible. At present, we have seen some small and great attempts on the public account, and everything is just getting started.

Email
I love Web mail systems. I did not use client tools such as Outlook many years ago. I have been using Gmail to send and receive various emails. I like the usage habits recommended by Gmail by default:

1. Inbox is the Inbox.Emails processed are immediately deleted or archived. This is a sense of accomplishment. Every time you open Gmail, the task is to empty Inbox.

2. For ** important emails, add a star **. By default, Gmail also has the priority function, which automatically increases the priority of some emails based on your usage habits. It is very convenient to process a large number of new emails.

3. You do not need to manage any tags. Said Zhang Xiaolong,A good product should avoid getting users involved in management. I agree very much. In Gmail, through powerful search, tag and category are all cloud games.

4. Later, due to the company's system, company emails were managed using Outlook Web App. Although it is far less convenient than Gmail, but fortunately there are not many emails in a day, it is good to concentrate on time processing. You have never encountered any emails that must be responded in a timely manner.

In short, take the initiative to process the mail, instead of being processed by the mail. Of course, this is related to the nature of work. For me, for most programmers, I believe this can effectively improve time utilization.

Weibo
I once posted a microblog saying that GFW has done a good job, which effectively reduces the time spent on Twitter by many netizens. It was half-joking and half-earnest to publish this microblog every year. Now I almost don't go to Twitter. It can be said that GFW is really helpful. Everything has advantages and disadvantages, and there is no absolute good or bad. (This passage has been swallowed up, rising to slaves, freedom, and democracy. If you read the code but read it from the Prime Minister, don't pay attention to me. You can't make up your complaints and work. When will you come back to me with a gun .)

I only use Sina Weibo now. It seems to be an active member. In fact, I am not spending much time on Weibo. In weekly calculation, the average day is less than half an hour. The main method is as follows:

1.Use Weibo as a media player.Weibo has done its best to stay at home and know the world. If this product is known to Zhuge Liang, it will surely die. With Weibo, I have never been to a portal website (it seems that I have never been to a portal website before Weibo ). I only use Weibo for the Web version. First, this is because I can effectively grasp the initiative in my own hands. Second, it is because there is a hot topic on the right side of the Weibo homepage for the Web version. It's enough for me to take a glance every day or every week.

2.Use Weibo as a message book. The socialization of Weibo is a message book that can be added by myself. Sina Weibo's group is a good feature. I have created an "acquaintance" group, which only contains a small number of subscriptions that I think are worth reading. In this way, the reading volume per day is very small and there is often no readable content. In addition to the "acquaintances" group, there is also a more time-consuming view of comments and forwarding. Currently, you can only view comments without forwarding. A lot of forwarded content and comments are repeated. Why does Sina Weibo not deduplicate the content?

3.Use Weibo for search.I recently searched seajs on Weibo almost every week to see if there were any new discussions or messages. I sincerely hope that Weibo will launch an Alerts service like Google, and send me an email with new content. Kaifu Lee has recently recommended the keyword subscription function.

Other Weibo functions are cloudification for me and occasionally go around, such as microblogs, but more from the perspective of product analysis.

In short, we should take the initiative to use Weibo instead of Weibo. Never believe in the use of time. Any product that preempys the user's time is rogue, and the user is poor enough. Weibo is just a pair of gloves. It is good to bring them with you. Never take Weibo as an airplane or log on to it. It's hard to think about it when it goes down.

Website
Yesterday's microblog named Blue ideal and CSDN, rather than denying their previous glory and past and current help to new users, but judging from the current development of the two websites, if you are interested in improving your professional skills, try to stay away from these domestic forums. I don't know how to use words to describe the noisy, impetuous, and poor-quality posts. You may not agree with this passage, but I have my point of view. If you think I am wrong, it is best to prove that you are right.

As a programmer, I often do not have many websites, such as Google, StackOverflow, and Quora. Currently, only GitHub is visited every day. GitHub is a game park for me, full of challenges and fun.

RSS
Now, we don't seem to have to discuss it. In the past few years, it took a lot of time on Google Reader, and even a day to relax. With the decline of blogs, there are fewer and fewer excellent content in RSS, so there is no time to invest without desire, so don't worry.

Similar to RSS, there are other websites, such as Douban, zhihu, and Pinterest. I don't seem to be very attractive to me. I think Douban will go to book reviews when I buy a book. I know that some people in the email will occasionally go to answer questions. Pinterest and other foreign sites are mostly engaged in the mentality of researching products. It seems that they have never been integrated, including Facebook, and it feels like a leisurely website.

I forgot to say that another function of Weibo is "favorites ". This is the RSS of the new age. On Weibo, we often see valuable long texts or videos for sharing. In this case, I will add my favorites to my favorites and wait for the evening and weekend to concentrate on reading for a while. It is the same as reading Google Reader.

At present, Weibo's favorites are not used much, and Evernote is used more. the articles worth reading carefully will be added to the Evernote server through Clearly extension, and then reviewed through the mobile client during scattered periods such as meals and bedtime.

Another position is a public account, which currently subscribes to public accounts such as gossip, Mac skills, ghost seven, ATP, Qinglong old thief, and 36kr. The quality is very good. If you are interested, you can choose to subscribe.

Summary
It seems that I am a conservative. I upgraded my system to Mountain Lion six months ago, studied the Notifications Center for a long time, and finally decided to completely disable it. The icons in the upper right corner were also deleted. The Push function of the iPhone is also disabled by me.

I like Google Calendar very much. The first thing I do at work every day is to plan what I want to do on that day. However, they never remind me that they will keep their memories of meetings and things early in the morning and seldom forget them.

Finally, I think of @ Macji: Once you have experienced the pleasure of engaging in work, you will not be infatuated with the pleasure of socializing. I think this sentence is very good. I have summarized several points for myself:

1. The best reading is output. For example, I have far better fun and gains in writing this article than reading 1000000 Weibo posts.

2. The best IM is email. I have never liked to discuss technical issues through Weibo or IM, and I recommend that you use emails for communication. Email writing can make your ideas clearer and more complete, and help you solve problems more effectively. In addition to emails, the current Code class discussions like GitHub's Issues. Markdown format is very elegant, and GitHub's Issue can automatically communicate with emails, which is very convenient.

3.The Group will turn you into the masses. If you want to see everyone, go to the bubble group.

4. asynchronous mode is better than synchronous mode. Asynchronization allows you to control the initiative in your own hands, and Asynchronization allows you to freely arrange the time. For programmers, except for a few things that need to be processed synchronously, Asynchronization is the soul of efficiency in most cases.

5. The fragments are robbers. The software that preemptible the fragment time will not help you take advantage of the fragment time, but will only split your entire time into fragments.

6. read a good book or even read online. The benefits of a good book are often far greater than those of a large number of online reading.

7. Ask for information. The truly important information will take the initiative to your side. Information will walk without your own digging. Do not worry about missing information.

8. The Internet is a tool. Don't put your emotions into it. The Internet is stone, scissors, and cloth.

9. Read is for writing and learning is for use. Writing in a broad sense: writing blogs, writing code, and so on. Only in this way can reading be effectively converted into output. Learning is for use. It is because any learned knowledge or sentiment, if you don't use it or practice it, it will always be just sentiment, it will never truly flow into your heart and become your strength.

Time management is a very old topic and has been very interested in this aspect. Therefore, I hope it will help you.
