I have been using ubuntu9.10 for several days. It is a headache for me to install the font. I used to follow the ubuntu9.04 method and found that the font in windows could not be used. I have changed several methods, finally, a solution is provided. The process is as follows:
1. Create a folder named xfonts and copy the required XP font to the folder.
2. Enter sudo gnome-open // usr/share/fonts on the terminal, open the Ubuntu font folder, and copy the xfonts folder.
3. This step is critical. In versions earlier than 9.04, you do not need to perform this operation. Right-click the xfonts folder and change the folder permission to read/write. If you do not perform this step, normal users will not be able to use this folder, and naturally they will not be able to use the fonts in it. Then they will enter the xfonts directory and change all the font permissions to read and write.
4. input the following commands on the terminal in sequence:
CD/usr/share/fonts/xfonts
Sudo mkfontscale
Sudo mkfontdir
Sudo FC-Cache-FV
Create a font cache.
During the operation, I made the third step, that is, modifying the folder and font attributes can be used normally. However, we recommend that you set up the font cache in step 4.
The above is a summary of my experience in the learning process. I hope to help you!
