Generally, if we want to configure a mail account in Sharepoint, but do not want to use domain mail configuration, for example, we want to use Gmail or other third-party mail systems to configure a Sharepoint mail account, we can follow the steps below to configure. (Of course, the following configuration also supports the scenario where the Sharepoint Server is not on the domain controller)
1. Create a Gmail account and start POP3 settings in Gmail,
2. Install the SMTP service. Remember to start the corresponding service items in the service
3. Enable IIS (if it is Windows Server 2008, you need to enable IIS6), right-click SMTP virtual server, select accss (for example, left), and select relay... (for example, right ).
4. Select delivery and Outbound Security, for example, set your Gmail account and password.
Click Outbound Connections to change the TCP port. The port number of Gmail is 587.
Continue to select Advanced... for example, fully-qualified domain name must be your domain in SMTP. after entering the domain name, you must click check DNS. the pop-up information must be displayed.
The SMTP server configuration is complete.
5. Go back to Central Administration> operations> outgoing e-mil settings in Sharepoint. For example, enter the fully-qualified domain name set in step 5 above in the outbound SMTP server shown in the following figure.
Central Administration-> operations-> incoming e-mail settings
Central Administration-> Application Management-> Web application outgoing e-mail settings, where the outbound SMTP server is the same as the settings in opertions
So far, all the settings have been completed. Then you only need to create a workflow or a discussion version to test the mail.
I hope this content will help you.
