If you are installing Ubuntu under the VM, you must install VMware-tools for a better experience, including screen resolution, sound, and windows Shared clipboard. Click-VM-InstallVMwareTools In the VMware menu. Then, the installation disc image of VMwareTools for Linux is automatically loaded under Ubuntu. You will see a CD icon named VMwareTools on the desktop of the virtual machine, and it is automatically opened.

If you are installing Ubuntu under the VM, you must install VMware-tools for a better experience, including screen resolution, sound, and windows Shared clipboard.

Choose-VM-Install VMware Tools from the VMware menu.

At this time, the installation CD image of VMware Tools for Linux is automatically loaded under Ubuntu. You will see a CD icon named VMware Tools on the desktop of the virtual machine, which is automatically opened. It contains two files: VMwareTools-xxx-i386.rpm and VMwareTools-xxx.tar.gz.

If you double-click the rpm file, the system will prompt that the software package is not supported, because rpm is the installation package for RedHat and what we need is .tar.gz.

Copy the .tar.gz file to the desktop, right-click the menu, and decompress it here. Www.linuxidc.com will be automatically decompressed into a vmware-tools-distrib directory.

Open the terminal (System Application menu-attachment-terminal) and execute the following command line once:

$ Cd Desktop
$ Cd vmware-tools-distrib
$ Sudo. /vmware-install.pl (enter your password will prompt after the press enter, and the password will not be displayed, indicating that you will execute an action with more advanced permissions-install software; again press enter to start installation)

After some confirmation, press enter (this is equivalent to the many dialogs that are filled in when installing software in Windows. Here we use the default settings ), after "Enjoy -- the VMware team" is displayed, the VMwareTools installation is complete.

If you are using VMware Workstation 6.0.0, you should now be able to see the effect of VMware Tools after installation: you no longer need to use Ctrl + Alt to switch between the virtual reality, everything changes so naturally; the resolution of a virtual machine can automatically adapt to the size of the window, and everything looks so harmonious.

In VMware Workstation 5.5.3, after installing VMware Tools in Ubuntu, you must manually execute/usr/bin/vmware-toolbox to display the effect. You can run it by entering the following command in the terminal: $/usr/bin/vmware-toolbox. However, if you are in trouble, we need to enable vmware-toolbox to run automatically upon startup. Click the Ubuntu menu: System -- preferences -- session -- Startup Programs. Add a Startup program named "vmware-toolbox" and "Command" as "/usr/bin/vmware-toolbox. In this way, the VMware Tools will automatically run after each boot. Restart Ubuntu to check the effect! (Note: The vmware-toolbox is not hidden in the background. Do not disable it after startup)

VMware Tools is a good thing, but it also has side effects. For example, the scroll wheel of the mouse in the virtual machine is poor. To solve this problem, open the terminal and enter $ sudo gedit/etc/X11/xorg. conf.

This command enables the system to open the/etc/X11/xorg. conf file with the root permission. Put

If there is no Option "Protocol", "ps/2.
Add this line in the virtual mouse column.

Restart Ubuntu.
