IIS is a Web Server promoted by Microsoft. It comes with IIS components in both Windows 2000/2003 Server and Windows XP. through IIS components, we can set up servers such as WEB, FTP, and Mail. This article uses Windows XP as a platform to briefly introduce how to install and configure IIS.

1. Install IIS Components

Step 1: Select Start> set> Control Panel> add or delete programs to open the add or delete programs dialog box.

Step 2: click "Add/delete Windows Components" in the button panel on the left of the dialog box to open the "Windows component wizard" dialog box. In the "components" List of the dialog box, select the "Internet Information Service (IIS)" check box. As the IIS component integrates the SMTP service and FTP service, you can select this check box and then click the "details" button to cancel the installation of the corresponding service in the displayed dialog box.

Step 3: Follow the prompts in the Wizard to install Windows XP. During the installation process, the system will prompt you to insert the installation CD for Windows XP, in this case, you can direct the path to the I386 directory of the Windows XP installer.

2. Configure IIS

After the IIS component is installed, we can use the IIS service. However, your Web server has not been configured yet. We also need to configure IIS.

Step 1: Select Start> set> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Internet information service to open the Internet Information Service dialog box.

Step 2: Expand "Internet Information Service"> "Local Computer"> "website"> "default website" in the list on the left side of the dialog box ", the files and folders under "C: \ Inetpub \ wwwroot" are displayed in this list, that is, the path where the website is stored. This is also the default setting of the system, we can modify this.

Step 3: Select "operations"> "properties" from the menu in the dialog box to open the "default website properties" dialog box. Select the "home directory" tab and enter the path of the website in the "local path" text box on this tab.

Step 4: by default, the site browsing does not support ASP programs, so we need to set it. In the "default website properties" dialog box, select the "document" tab and click "add" in the "enable default document" option area, in the "add default document" dialog box that appears, enter "index. asp, and then click OK.

Step 5: After IIS configuration is complete, open IE and enter http: // 127.0.0.1 or http: // localhost in the address bar to view the web page, because we have already applied for a free peanut shell domain name, you can also use the domain name you applied for access, but the premise is that you must start the peanut shell service.

Iii. Installation and start of ms SQL Server

After the IIS component is installed and configured, you can ACCESS the ACCESS database. However, many website systems currently use ASP + SQL Server programs, therefore, the configuration of SQL Server is also an important part of Web Server setup.

Generally, the environment where ms SQL Server is located is Windows 2000/2003 Server. Because our instance Environment is Windows XP, the development version of ms SQL Server is installed, for Windows 2000/2003 Server, the Enterprise Edition is installed.
