1. DNS settings in WIN2K

TCP/IP communication between computers on the Internet is performed through IP addresses, and all computers on the Internet should have a unique IP address. However, IP addresses are identified by numbers, such as 202.101.6.2, with poor memory. Therefore, people use computer domain names that are easier to remember, such as www.sohu.com. The user first registers the domain name in the domain name system. The DNS server is used to resolve the domain name to the corresponding IP address, and then communicate through the IP address.

You can also configure your own DNS server in the LAN. You can set a virtual domain name that is only used by the LAN. If DNS is not installed on win2000server, install it. Go to"Control Panel"→ Select"Add/delete programs"→ Select"Windows component wizard"→ Double-click"NETWORK SERVICE"→ Set"Domain Name System DNS"Tick → click"OK"→ The system will prompt you to insert the WIN2000 installation disk, and then you can use the DNS service.

The following describes how to set up a virtual domain name in the LAN. We will create a virtual domain name asp.com/"> www.swfzasp.com as an example:

EnterProgram→Management tools→DNS.

　　The following describes how to place a WEB site on the W2K server and bind the corresponding domain name.

First, you must have the IIS service on the W2K server. If not, install this function. Go to"Control Panel"→ Select"Add/delete programs"→ Select"Windows component wizard"→ Double-click"NETWORK SERVICE"→ Set"Internet Information Service"Tick → click"OK"→ The system will prompt you to insert the WIN2000 installation disk, and then you can use the IIS service.
