What does mount and mount point mean

We often see the concept of "Mount", which is translated as "Mount ". For example, in root explorer, you will be asked to choose "Mount as read-only/read/write". After obtaining the root permission, you can mount the entire system as read/write, so that you can freely operate on various sensitive files.

"Attaching" is a verb used by various storage devices. After a storage device is attached to your system, you and your operating system can access the data on this storage device. Simply put, you can only view your documents, photos, and other data on mounted storage devices.

"Mount point" means "mount point", which is a directory through which you can access the data stored in the mounted device.

In-depth understanding

To understand the concept of Mount, you must first understand the other two concepts:

Partition)

Partition is the concept of hardware. A partition is a partition of hardware. The advantage of partitioning is to ensure the independence of data in each shard. If the data in one partition is damaged, the data in the other partition will not be affected; at the same time, it can avoid data conflicts (such as namespaces), and reasonable partitions can even speed up reading and writing.

Format)

Formatting specifies the format and specification for writing data to hardware. The advantage of formatting is to increase the efficiency and security of data storage and read/write.

After formatting a partition, you can write data to it. To read data in this partition, We must access it through the operating system. Therefore, the operating system establishes a connection with this interval. We can access it through this connection, just like accessing data in a webpage through a website. However, the "connection" here is not a URL, but a directory like/system/app. To establish such a "connection" is "Mount"; to establish a "connection" is "mount point ".

Farmer's story

There was a farmer who had three children, 25 mu of farmland (1 ). After he got old, he decided to allocate Tian to three children.

Chart 1

John, the first child, has eight acres of data.

Steve, the second child, got 4 mu of land.

The third child Barbi receives 13 mu of data. (2)

Chart 2

The farmer told the children to plant different crops and use different methods to plow and weed out the soil. For example, to plant pineapple, the distance between the troughs can be closer, in this way, you can plant more citrus, and the distance between each line of the plow ditch should be wider, so that the sun will not be blocked when growing up.

John, the first child, planted pineapple.

Steve planted Blueberry in the second child.

The third child, Barbi, planted citrus.

They plow the ground in different ways. (3)

Chart 3

After the children grow up, they decide to add a fence to their land to protect the crops and manage them better. After the fence is added, you can only go through a fixed entrance to pick fruit from the ground. (4)

Chart 4

In the preceding example, the following correspondence exists:

25 mu of land corresponds to the entire storage device;

Each child's field corresponds to a different partition in the storage device;

The partitioning method corresponds to different formatting methods;

Different data in the shard corresponding to the fruit in the ground;

Mount a fence to each area

The entry of the fence corresponds to the mount point.

Summary

The process from "0" "1" to accessible documents and photos on a storage device is "mount.

In a file system, the entry to access a storage device is mountpoint. For example, C:/and D:/in windows :/.
