What is the future of MySQL database?

We all know that after Oracle acquired the Sun database, it can be said that the future of MySQL database development has been concerned. Recently, some MySQL databases have been migrated to other systems for a long time, increasing pessimistic expectations for the future of MySQL.

Some time ago, Twitter announced that it would remove the existing MySQL system and use Cassandra to manage information. Cassandra is a distributed open-source database funded by the Apache fund. It is mainly used to distribute massive data to a large number of cheap servers and then piece together an Information Management Cluster without spof. Before Twitter, Facebook and Digg began to use Cassandra, and Cisco's WebEx also used Cassandra to collect user feedback.

Once upon a time, MySQL databases were favored by various Internet applications as the darling of the Internet and the flagship software. However, with Sun's acquisition of MySQL, its dazzling light gradually fades away. For many users, MySQL has become a commercial profitable product, and there is great uncertainty in its future development. In addition, with the continuous expansion of Web 2.0 applications, many enterprises find that the cost of using MySQL will increase exponentially with the expansion of data volumes, centralized data storage is increasingly difficult to achieve an organic balance between efficiency and efficiency.

In addition, the recent No-SQL movement has brought new choices to the IT industry. In addition to Cassandra, representatives of the No-SQL movement include Hadoop, Google's Big Table, MemCacheDB, Voldemort, CouchDB, and MongoDB.

In this context, not only do large Internet enterprises begin to abandon relational databases, including MySQL databases, even internal applications of some enterprises, considering the increase in multimedia, email, space, and geographic information, also began to adopt non-relational database solutions.

Twitter official comments on Cassandra seem to be more informative. Twitter said: "Cassandra does not have a single point of failure. It was born from Facebook and is designed for massive data. It is suitable for a large number of distributed write operations and relies on a healthy support community ."

For systems built on relational databases, Cassandra also provides the means to load data from other relational databases, which means that potential users can consider "trying" to use their systems in Cassandra, twitter is doing the same thing. Twitter plans to allow the two systems to run in parallel for a period of time. After the new system is confirmed to run stably, MySQL will be eliminated.

Today, MySQL Databases have to face many problems. It has a low adoption rate in large application fields, and it also faces powerful competitors of PostgreSQL. In addition, the grass-roots version of MySQL is thriving. Compared with the official Enterprise Edition and Community edition, MySQL branch products seem to have received more Community support. In addition, the purchase case is not settled. Although Oracle's acquisition of Sun has been recognized by the United States and the European Union, it still takes some time to pass review by China and Russia's anti-monopoly authorities.
