The installer for Exchange 2000 and 2003 can receive the command line switch "/FORESTPREP", which allows the Administrator to extend the mode of the Active Directory to include the classes and properties of the Exchange Server, instead of installing Exchange 2000 or 2003.
This allows the part of the Active Directory involved in the Exchange installation to be independently completed without the actual running of the installation file in the Exchange program. If your company is responsible for different people in the activity catalog and Exchange, and you don't want them to step on each other's toes, this technology will become quite useful.
Unfortunately, the use of "/FORESTPREP" for Exchange installation sometimes fails and the following error messages are hard to explain:
Setup failed while installing sub-component Microsoft Exchange
Organization-Level Container Object with error code 0xC1037AE6
(Please consult the installation logs for a detailed description)
You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again
Its meaning is:
An error occurred while installing the Microsoft Exchange sub-component.
The target container of the Organization layer with code 0xC1037AE6 is incorrect.
(For details, refer to the Installation Log)
You can cancel the installation or try again
The retry result is often failed. Even if the installation is complete, many components in Exchange do not run properly. In this case, you should cancel the installation and return the status before any changes you have made. Then try other methods again.
One reason for installation failure due to the use of the "/FORESTPREP" command is that one or more spaces exist in the TEMP or TMP directory variable (which can be viewed using the "SET" command) Name, however, in the NTFS system partition, the file name of version 8.3 is invalid. The installer still uses the 8.3 path name for the TEMP directory and uses it to store the temporary files of the installation options. If the installer cannot find the path on the disk, of course, it will fail.
To solve this problem, point the TEMP and TMP system variables to directories without spaces in the name (for example, C: \ TEMP or C: \ TMP ). Remember to create a folder. Otherwise, the installation will still fail.
