Why is your Wi-Fi so slow?

Wi-Fi connection is often encountered, but it is very slow. Generally, it is related to the network bandwidth and the number of users. I want to know what causes the Wi-Fi to slow down?

Slow network speeds have become the topic with the highest frequency of customer complaints received by each broadband operator. Studies have shown that most consumers currently use only about 50% of their router bandwidth ceiling. The reason why the wi-fi speed fails to meet everyone's expectations is related to these six factors.

1. Wi-Fi signal congestion

When users access the network through Wi-Fi, they actually use a fixed-frequency wireless band just like a radio station, therefore, how many similar signal transmitting and receiving devices will affect the user experience of Wi-Fi.

Steve Biddle, a New Zealand engineer who has studied wireless hotspots, wrote last week: "If you live in a central apartment building in the city center, if there are hundreds of wireless networks in the apartment building, this is almost the worst Wi-Fi environment."

Even if the Wi-Fi signal on your mobile phone is full, the actual Wi-Fi signal may be very slow, mobile phones, cordless phones, Shanghai, Bluetooth devices, and even wireless baby monitoring devices may affect the quality of Wi-Fi signals.

2. the device cannot send or receive data at the same time.

Because Wi-Fi signals cannot send and receive data at the same time, this makes the network access method more data delay than other methods. In addition, many people use the same Wi-Fi channel at the same time, which will greatly affect the signal strength of Wi-Fi.

In fact, your vro can usually use hundreds of Wi-Fi channels, but most people only adjust the options of the vro channel to the "Automatic" mode, therefore, most people are using the GHz frequency channel that is already very crowded. In addition, if you are in a region with plenty of network signals, your router will continue to find the best network channel, which also produces network latency, this is not a problem that broadband operators can solve.

3. Inherent defects

No matter how much improvement the Wi-Fi technology will make in the future, the wireless connection method will hardly surpass the existing wired Internet access mode. Wi-Fi will not completely replace wired Internet connections. It is just a more convenient networking solution.

4. Background work

If the wi-fi speed is still not improved after all the above factors are ruled out, check whether your software is automatically synchronizing data and photos. In fact, applications such as Steam, Netflix, and BitTorrent, the world's largest Comprehensive digital distribution platform, all transmit files in the background, which greatly affects users' wi-fi speed. In addition, because most of these applications work silently in the background, many users simply cannot remember their existence.

5. router location

The placement of wireless routers has a great impact on the signal strength. For example, if you place a router on the side of a cement wall, the signal strength will be greatly reduced. If possible, the optimal place of the router is naturally on the ceiling in the center of the room (of course, many consumers do not have such conditions ).

6. device differences

Don't be surprised if your iPhone 3G Wi-Fi connection speed is not as fast as that of iPhone 6, because the Wi-Fi connection speed is also closely related to the information processing speed of the connected device.

Four suggestions:

1. Upgrade your router device to a dual-band router that supports both the 2-4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. However, it should be noted that the wall-crossing capability of 5 GHz frequency signals is less than 2.4 GHz, and many older devices do not support this wi-fi frequency.

2. Check the Wi-Fi channel usage in the region through the channel viewer, and select a smoother channel.

3. If you have an idle wireless router on hand, you may consider using wireless signal relay or amplification to enhance the indoor Wi-Fi signal strength.

4. If your vro has different power supply options, such as high power and low power, the low power usage usually has a better Wi-Fi signal strength.
