Before installing, learn about: Getting Started with SQL Server 2008 failover Clustering

SQL Server 2008 clusters are Windows-based clusters: Windows 2008 Dual-machine cluster configuration (for SQL Server)

Current system configuration: Microsoft Windows Enterprise x64 SP2 + SQL Server Enterprise (64-bit)

The configuration process can be consulted: How to create a new SQL Server failover cluster (Setup)

Before security, create 2 separate accounts in the domain.

Kk\dbadmin

SQL Server Administrator account

Kk\service

SQL Server service Account

1. Insert the SQL Server installation media, and then double-click Setup.exein the root folder. Click " New SQL Server failover cluster Installation" on the installation page

2. Check if the Setup support procedures

3. On the Product Key page, indicate whether you are installing a free version of SQL Server or you have a PID key for the production version of the product.

4. Check again if the Setup support rules Pass

5. On the Feature Selection page, select the component you want to install. The shared Features directory defaults to the local C-drive directory.

6. On the instance configuration page, specify whether to install a default instance or a named instance.

SQL Server Network name (virtual SQL Server name)-Specifies the network name of the new SQL Server failover cluster. This name is used to identify the failover cluster in the network.

Instance ID -By default, the instance name is used as the instance ID. This is used to identify the installation directory and registry keys for an instance of SQL Server. This is the default way for both default and named instances. For the default instance, the instance name and instance ID are MSSQLSERVER. To use a non-default instance ID, select the Instance ID box and provide a value.

Instance root directory -By default, the instance root is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\. To specify a non-default root directory, use the fields provided, or click the ellipsis button to locate an installation folder.

7. The disk space Requirements page calculates the disk space required for the specified feature and compares disk space requirements to the available disk space on the computer on which the Setup program is running.

8. Use the cluster resource Groups page to specify the name of the specified cluster resource group. The cluster resource group is the location where SQL Server failover cluster resources are placed.

9. On the cluster Disk Selection page, select the shared cluster disk resource for your SQL Server failover cluster. Cluster disks are used to hold SQL Server data. You can specify multiple disks. The Available shared disks grid displays a list of available disks, whether each disk can be used as a shared disk, and a description of each disk resource. Click "Next" to continue.

On the cluster network configuration page, specify network resources for the failover cluster instance: Network Settings- Specify the IP type and IP address of the failover cluster instance.

11. Use this page to specify the cluster security policy , Windows Server 2008 and later versions-service SID (server security ID) is the recommended and default setting. The option to specify a domain group is available, but is not recommended.

12. Specify the logon account for the SQL Server service on the server configuration -Service Account page. It is recommended that each service account be individually configured to provide the least privilege for each service, that is, to grant the SQL Server service the minimum permissions that they must have to complete their tasks.

13. Use the Database engine configuration - account Settings page to specify the following:

Safe Mode- Select Windows authentication or Mixed Mode authentication for your instance of SQL Server. If you select Mixed Mode authentication, you must provide a strong password for the built-in SQL Server system administrator account.

SQL Server administrator- You must specify at least one system administrator for the instance of SQL Server. A dedicated administrative account is currently added.

14. Use the Database engine configuration-Data Catalog page to specify a nondefault installation directory. For a failover cluster, the data directory should reside on a shared cluster disk.

15. The System Configuration Checker will then run a set of rules to validate your computer configuration against the SQL Server features that you specify.

The ready to install page displays a tree view of the installation options specified during installation. To continue, click Install.

18. When the installation is complete, thecompletion page provides links to the installation summary log files and other important notes. To complete the SQL Server installation process, click Close .

The SQL Server failover cluster was successfully installed, but at this point there is no high availability on one node in Shanghai, and the second SQL Server node is installed below. The add procedure omits some unnecessary step descriptions.

19. On the second node, insert the SQL Server installation media, and then double-click Setup.exein the root folder. To add a node to an existing failover cluster instance, click Installin the left pane. Then select add nodes to the SQL Server failover cluster .

20. On the cluster node configuration page, use the drop-down box to specify the name of the SQL Server 2008 Failover cluster instance that you want to modify during this installation operation.

21. Specify the logon account for the SQL Server service on the server configuration-Service Account page. Pre-populate the account name and startup type information on this page. You must provide a password for each account.

22. The remaining steps are as follows

Configuration Complete! ~ The following can fail over and log in to the cluster database! ~
