To achieve the same 3D effect as a local machine, both the local machine and remote computer must be Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 or above. First, set Remote Desktop on the remote computer. Right-click the "computer" icon and select the "properties" command. In the "System" window that appears, click the "remote settings" link, in the "remote" option window of "System Properties", select "allow computer connection to run any version of Remote Desktop" (1) to enable the Remote Desktop function. Next, we need to go to the "control panel-User Account and home security" function (2) and set a password for the account used to log on to the Remote Desktop.

After setting the remote computer, we can try to connect to the Remote Desktop on the local machine. Click Start-allProgram-Attachment-Remote Desktop Connection command. In the "Remote Desktop" window, enter the remote computer name and click "Connect" (3 ); in this case, the "Windows Security" window will pop up and you need to enter the password (4). After Entering the password, check the "Remember me creden。" option and click OK to automatically log on to the Remote Desktop at the next connection.

However, after connecting to the Remote Desktop, we did not see the Windows 7 aero 3D desktop effect (5 ). Open the Remote Desktop Connection window again and click "options" to go to the "experience" option. At this time, we should set it to "LAN (10 Mbps or higher) "(6 ). After connecting again, we finally experienced the Remote Desktop with Aero effect (7 ).

II,Windows 7Remote Desktop User Experience
The biggest improvement in RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) in Windows 7 is the 3D rendering technology. When running remote desktop, remote computers perform 3D rendering, RDP uses the cache compression technology to ensure the smoothness of images transmitted to the local machine. When performing 3D rendering of Remote Desktop on the local machine, the remote computer uses the 3D instruction sets such as GDI, Direct 3D, and DWM to transmit the data packets to the CPU and GPU of the Local Machine for hardware rendering (RDP architecture 8 ). Next, Let's connect to the Remote Desktop of the Windows 7 virtual machine created by vmware7.0 on the Local Computer (supports Windows 7 Aero, and the experience index reaches 2.9 ). Hardware configuration of the Virtual Machine: the CPU is core e6300, and the memory is 2024 MB. Local Machine configuration: the CPU is core e6300, the memory is 6 GB, and the video card is 7300gt (directx9 is supported ). The hardware performance of the virtual machine is slightly inferior, but the 3D effect of Remote Desktop on Windows 7 is supported.

First, we play a DVDRip video on the Remote Desktop. The video encoding format is Xvid (9 ). During non-full-screen playback, the video frame rate is about 10, and the screen latency is significant (10). The audio latency is much lower, because RDP supports low-latency audio playback. DVDRip is not a high-definition video. It is a remote computer rendering Task Based on the RDP rendering division. Therefore, it is not surprising that the playback effect is unsatisfactory. So, will the playback effect of HD videos be improved on the Remote Desktop? We play a high-definition video in the MKV format. The video encoding format is v_mpeg4 (11 ). Video Playback is severely slow. The video frame rate is lower than 5 (12). The audio quality is also reduced, and the audio speed is faster than that of the screen. Then, we played HD videos on the vmwarevm and found that the video was playing smoothly, with the frame rate reaching about 30 (13). This indicates that the Remote Desktop needs to transmit a large amount of data, the CPU and GPU of the remote machine may cause great computing pressure.

What is the experience of running 3D games on the Remote Desktop? We run a General Motors rally game that requires directx9 support. However, when the game is running, an error message indicating that the rendering cannot be initialized is displayed (14 ). We can run the game smoothly in VMware's Virtual Machine (15 ). This means that the GPU and CPU of virtual machines are overwhelmed by running 3D games and transmitting data streams from remote desktops. This may be because RDP saves about 40% of the network overhead compared to XP and Vista and requires a lot of compression processing (the RDP network overhead of three systems is 16 ). Currently, Windows 7 Remote Desktop assigns 3D applications earlier than directx10.1 to remote machines for processing, while directx10.1 and later are allocated to local machines. Therefore, a computer with a directx10.1 video card can improve the 3D experience of Remote Desktop.

We run the flash game smoothly on the webpage, while the video playing with Silverlight is only slightly delayed (17 ). Both are remote rendering content, and the virtual machine system is more than enough for such operations.

Figure 17

Through experience, we found that remote desktop must meet the following conditions to smoothly play 3D games and watch HD videos: support 3D games with DirectX 10.1 or more; the local computer must have a video decoding package (directx10.1 video decoding is required); the CPU performance of the local computer is mainstream, and the video card supports direct x10.1; the CPU performance of the remote computer is strong, and the video card supports directx9; supports Wireless Networks and Protocols Above 802.11g.
Tip: Remote Desktop cannot close the computer remotely, but you can use the shutdown-s command to quickly shut down the computer.
