What else would you expect? Will Microsoft launch a new operating system that is less secure than its predecessor? I don't think so. While the spread around Windows 7 security may be partially exaggerated, there are a number of important security improvements that are noteworthy, especially for users who are transitioning from Windows XP to (or considering) Windows 7. Many security upgrades also exist in Windows Vista, so Vista users should already be familiar with it.

1. Protect the kernel

The kernel is the core of the operating system, which makes it a major target for malware and other attacks. Basically, if an attacker were able to access or manipulate the kernel of the operating system, they could execute malicious code on a level that no other application or even the operating system itself could detect. Microsoft has developed "kernel-mode protection" to protect the core and ensure that unauthorized access does not occur.

In addition to protecting the kernel, Microsoft has done some other basic improvements to protect the operating system after Windows XP was launched. Many attacks are based on the ability of an attacker to know the location of specific functions or commands residing in memory, or to perform attacks on files that may contain only data.

Address space layer randomization (ASLR) by randomly distributing key operating system features in memory, attackers can be blocked from where they hesitate to attack from. Microsoft has also developed Data Execution Protection (DEP) to prevent files that might contain data or files stored in the data area to execute any type of code.

2. More secure Web browsing

Windows 7 comes with the current and most powerful version of the Web browser IE8. You can also download and run IE8 on a different version of Windows operating system, so it's not dedicated to Windows 7, but it does bring some security improvements.

First, InPrivate Browsing provides the ability to access private Internet, as the name in private (privately) reveals. When you start a InPrivate browsing window, IE does not save any information about personal surfing on the web. This means that the information you enter is not stored in the cache, and there is no historical information about the site you visited. This feature is especially useful when you use IE8 on a shared or public computer (for example, in a library).

IE8 Another security improvement is the protection mode. The implementation of protected mode is a Windows 7-based security component that ensures that malicious or unauthorized code is not allowed to run on the browser. Protection mode prevents Drive-by from downloading attacks that allow users to install malware into your system when they visit a compromised web site

User Account Control (UAC) is an example of the love and hate that we all have in Windows Vista. UAC persists with Windows 7 o'clock, but Microsoft adds a control slider (slider) that allows you to control the level of protection provided by UAC-thus limiting the number of pop-up windows to allow access and execute the number of files.

Pop-up windows are just a small aspect of what UAC can do to see. In Windows Vista, many users simply disable all UAC, but that also turns off protection mode IE and some other operating system protection. Like McAfee, Symantec, Trend technology, and other vendors, they offer Windows 7 compliant versions, but if you don't want to invest more money, Microsoft also offers free security tools to protect your system.

Windows Firewall and Windows Defender Anti-spyware Tools are included in the basic installation package for Windows 7. You can also download and install Microsoft Security Essentials, a free anti-virus product that Microsoft recently released.

5. Monitoring Action Center

The Security Center that XP users are familiar with is replaced by Windows Action Center. Action Center is a more comprehensive console for monitoring Windows 7 systems that includes a security center.

The security section of this Action Center provides rough information about the security involved in the user's Windows 7 system. Includes information about firewalls, spyware and virus software, update status for Windows, Internet Security settings, and UAC.

There are a number of good reasons to upgrade to Windows 7. If you're still running Windows XP, security is the best reason to embrace the new operating system. Windows 7 May or may not be the greatest operating system ever, but it is definitely the safest operating system ever.
