Windows 8.1 hard disk installation Ubuntu14.04 dual system reference tutorial and precautions for multiple hard disks [Figure]

Hard Disk installation, without a CD or USB flash disk; dominated by Win8.1, supplemented by Ubuntu14.04, you can set Windows or Ubuntu as the default boot item; you can view and operate files in Windows under Ubuntu; suitable for installing Ubuntu systems similar to version 14.04. If the above is exactly what you need, it may be a reference tutorial. However, I suggest you read this article and make a decision first.

The methods described in this article are correct for personal tests. If any loss is caused by this article, I am not responsible. Please be careful!

Prerequisites
A healthy Win7 or Win8.1 operating system; Ubuntu Official System image file; backup of important files in the Windows system disk; learn about Linux partition mounting; get the EasyBCD software; you have read this article;
Step 1

In Windows, clear a hard disk partition or partition a new partition from an existing partition. Ubuntu will be installed in this partition. You can use some well-known disk tool software (partition assistant, DiskGenius, etc.) to separate the new area.

Example:

As shown in,Drive CIt's from Win8.1.System Disk,Elastic Block StorageI split it from the original drive C.New Partition(When using tools to split, we can not use the split space as the new partition, because we want to obtain an unused space ).

Step 2

After confirming the blank partition,Delete this partitionTo make it invisible in Windows Resource Manager.

You can right-click the "this computer" icon to go to the "disk management" page of the "management" function, select a blank partition, and right-click"Delete volume".

Is the status of the disk before the "delete volume" operation is performed on the disk.

Is the disk status after the "delete volume" operation is performed on the E Disk:

Now, in Windows, the original e-disk is invisible and unavailable. Only disk C is left in resource manager:

Step 3

Install EasyBCD in Windows. After the installation is successful, open the software and select "simplified Chinese" as the language ".

Select "Add new entry" in the tool list on the left, select the "NeoGrub" tab in the upper right corner of the functional area on the right, and click "Install. As shown in:

After installation, click "Configure" to open a notepad file named "menu. lst. Clear the file content and write the following text:

Title Install Ububtu

Root (hd0, 0)

Kernel (hd0, 0)/vmlinuz. efi boot = casper iso-scan/filename =/ubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso ro quiet splash locale = zh_CN.UTF-8

Initrd (hd0, 0)/initrd. lz

As shown in,Note Space:

NOTE 1: The"(Hd0, 0)"Points to the current system disk location, I am here is the c disk. HoweverIf disk C is not the first partition but the second partition, you must change it to "(hd0, 1 )", And so on.

Note 2: The third line of the file, "ubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso" is the file name of my Ubuntu system image, change it to your.

NOTE 3: "vmlinuz. efi" appears in the third line of the file. The Ubuntu installation is a 64-bit operating system, which must be "vmlinuz. efi"The extension cannot be missing.

Step 4

Use the compression tool to open the Ubuntu image file, disk "folder and" initrd. lz and vmlinuz. copy the efi file to the C root directory, and then copy the Ubuntu system image file to the C root directory:

Step 5

Restart the computer. On the boot page, select the operating system and select "NeoGrub Boot Loader ":

Then the Ubuntu selection page appears, and select "Install Ubuntu ".

Note: The error "File not found" may appear here:

The reason is that the parameters in the previous "menu. lst" file are not configured, but you do not need to restart the computer to set them, because the startup interface has provided us with a temporary parameter modification method:

Select "InstallUbuntu" and press "e" to go to the modification page:

Modify "(hd0, 0)" in the preceding three parts. "0" indicates the number of hard disks and "0" indicates the first disk; the following 0 represents the partitions in a hard disk. The modification method is also provided here,Modify keyboard e, delete keyboard d, and confirm and start keyboard B:

Note: When Windows 7 and Win8 systems are installed, a dedicated system partition of several hundred megabytes is created before the system disk by default. Therefore, if the C disk is a system disk, the parameter here is generally "hd)"

Step 6

After entering the Ubuntu trial interface, there are two files on the desktop.

Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open the terminal and enter "sudo umount-l/isodevice" to cancel mounting the disc drive. Otherwise, there may be an unlimited progress during subsequent installation:

Note: Pay attention to spaces, and"L" in "-l" is the lowercase form of the capital letter "L". It is neither the number 1 nor the letter "I ".

Step 7

Double-click the desktop icon "Install Ubuntu14.04 LTS" to start Ubuntu installation.

If you have connected to the network, you can select "download updates during installation" to prolong the installation time. You can also download and install updates after installing the Ubuntu system.

There are multiple installation options on the "installation type" interface:

If you select the first option, Ubuntu will automatically perform partitioning and installation, and then coexist with the Windows operating system as a dual system. You can select this option for partitions that do not have detailed requirements. In this tutorial, you can skip step 7 and Step 8. If you want to customize partitions, select "other options ". Here, I select "other options ".

The status of the entire hard disk partition is displayed:

We want to install Ubuntu in the "idle" partition. Select "idle" partition, and click the plus sign at the Red Line in the lower left to partition.

As for Linux partition mounting, many fixed-thinking Windows users are still struggling to crawl on the road of understanding. Partition is not the focus of this Article. Read professional articles on Linux partition.

The root directory "/" must exist., You can divide 8 GB to "/".

Swap partition swap is not mandatoryYou do not need to allocate space to it. This also means that you can allocate all the space to "/".

"/Boot" is not mandatory. If your hard disk is a single Ubuntu system, we recommend that you allocate space for it, generally less than 200 M, and set it as the first partition; if your hard disk is not a single system, but a dual system as described in this article, you do not need to allocate space.

"/Home" is used to save users' files. If you want to save a large amount of data to it, you need to allocate more space.

"/User" is mainly used to save Application Files. If you want to install many programs, you need to allocate more space. You can consider allocating the maximum space to it.

Select the file system type during partitioning and select "Ext4.

NOTE: If your memory is small, the swap partition size should exceed the physical memory size, but it should be smaller than the physical memory size multiplied by 2; if your memory is large enough, swap partitions can be allocated 1 GB to 2 GB, or even not. HoweverIf you want to install software that requires forced partition swap, you must allocate it. If you are not sure whether a software installed later requires forced partition swap, it is best to allocate, Generally 1 GB.

Step 8

After the partition is complete, start installation.

If you do not allocate swap space, the system will prompt you to skip.

After the installation is complete, Select Restart. If everything works properly, you can see the Ubuntu style startup Item Selection interface as shown in:

We can see that Win8.1 has been successfully installed.

Step 9 Final work

On the system startup interface, the Win8.1 system is in the last item. If you need to place Win8.1 in the first item, you can set it as follows:

1. Go to the Ubuntu system.

2. Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open the terminal, enter "sudo nautilus", and use the root permission to open the resource manager.

3. Find the "30_os-prober" file and change its name to "06_os-prober:

Go to Windows and clear the copied files on drive C.

Enable EasyBCD. In the previous "Add new entry" function, click "delete" to clear the "NeoGrub" guide.

More than Step 10 hard disks may cause problems

In the case of multiple hard disks, pay more attention to the aforementioned "(hd0, 0.

Before installing the dual-system, I added an SSD to my laptop and mounted it to the Windows operating system. In this way, the dual system architecture of SSD Win8.1 (drive C) and HDD Win7 (drive D) is formed. However, the problem exists here: Win7 was first installed, and SSD was later added to the hard disk. Although the system partition where HDD was located was cleared, the Windows boot file was still in the HDD hard disk. When Ubuntu is installed, the drive D cannot be deleted in the Win system. Therefore, DiskGenius is used to delete the drive d, and the boot file is lost. For some reason, you can only choose to reinstall the system because you cannot use the system CD or repair CD to repair the boot. However, you can format any partition while using a Windows system CD-Rom to reinstall the system, but you cannot install Win7 or Win8.1 in any partition. After many experiments, the solution to the problem I encountered was to remove the HDD and keep only one hard disk so that Windows could be installed smoothly. After the system is successfully installed, place the HDD to install Ubuntu.
