The first step is to extract apache-ant-1.7.1-bin.zip to a drive letter, where C is the example.
The second step sets the directory where the bin is located to one of the values of the PATH environment variable: C:\apache-ant-1.7.1\bin
The third step sets the environment variable Ant_home to: C:\apache-ant-1.7.1
The fourth step is to open the DOS window and enter ant-version check if correct, as

C:\Documents and Settings\administrator>ant-version
Apache Ant version 1.7.1 compiled on June 27 2008
