In Windows Server 2012, the DHCP server is able to automatically implement failover (DHCP failover) functionality, and in previous versions of Windows, such as Windows Server 2008, the corresponding solution was provided in roughly the following two ways:

1. Split scope: Allow most scopes to be responsible on the primary DHCP server, and a small portion on the standby DHCP server

2. Resolve by setting up a DHCP Windows cluster (Cluster) server

For the above two methods, the first is not suitable for large enterprises, not only the continuity of the scope IP address, for maintenance is not very good, and the second scenario, need to use shared storage, in the cost of many enterprises are unwilling to accept

But to the 2012,dhcp of the fault-tolerant features have been greatly improved, you can implement the Active/active mode, that is, the main/main mode, can also implement Active/passive mode, which is what we call the master/slave mode, in Windows Server 2012, DHCP provides two types of high-availability modes: Load balancing and hot standby servers

Needless to say, the following begins our deployment, the preparation of two Windows Server 2012 servers, are joined to the domain, of course, two workgroups (the same workgroup) 2012 servers can also be made highly available, today, most of the enterprise basic use of Windows systems, Instead of using the ad domain, I believe it's still rare!

First, ensure that both servers are joined to the domain, and then set a fixed IP address, but also to ensure that the two server time consistency, the general enterprise will synchronize the NTP server, most of our Ad Server

When I use 2012, I like to group servers that provide the same service, which is a new feature of Windows Server 2012, and in subsequent blogs I'll share more about 2012 new features, starting with creating a server group for the DHCP server

Navigate to the dashboard under Server Manager

Click "Create Server Group"

In the server group name, enter the name of the server group that we want to create, then navigate to Active Directory, enter DCHP in the Name field to search the DHCP server, click Search Now

After searching, select two DHCP servers DHCP01 and DHCP2, click the right triangle icon to add to the server group

Click "OK" to complete the creation of the server group, we can see the server group we just created under Server Manager.

Right-click on one of the DHCP servers, start installing DHCP roles on DHCP01, select "Add Roles and Features"
