Windows XP Memory Optimization

In most people's homes, computers are mainly used for surfing the Internet and playing games, and the configuration is not very high. If Windows XP is installed and used, you can use one word to describe it: slow! This is my first experience after installing Windows XP. Why is it so slow? Microsoft has added many new functions to Windows XP to give you a new experience, such as system restoration, Remote Desktop, automatic update, and Internet time synchronization ......, For me, these functions are basically useless, and the white space consumes memory. In addition, the memory usage continued to soar in recent periods. You know, most people still have 128 MB of memory (although my machine has MB of memory, I still hate unnecessary waste )! Below I will introduce several Windows XP Memory Optimization Methods for your reference.

1. Disable the "System Restore" Function

"System Restoration" is an important feature of Windows operating systems. This feature was initially limited to restoring the operating system when a problem occurs during windows running. In Windows XP, in addition to restoring the operating system, you can also restore private data, such as Word documents, drawing materials, email, and even browser historical data. Although "System Restoration" is useful to people who often make mistakes, it puts your hard disk in a highly busy state and you will find that your hard disk is always busy, because Windows XP records the operation for future restoration. If you have confidence in yourself, do not use it because it can occupy a lot of memory.

Right-click my computer and click Properties. The System Properties dialog box is displayed, and click System Restore ", tick the disable System Restore on All Drives option.

Ii. Disable the "Auto Update" Function

This function is suitable for users who have been online for 24 hours. However, considering that broadband is not widely used, most families use dial-up Internet access and there is no reason to keep this function on. I suggest you change the default Automatic Upgrade Method to manual upgrade, so that you can understand what the system has done.

For details, right-click "my computer", click Properties, click "Auto Update", and select "Disable auto update" in the "Notification Settings" column. I will update the computer manually.

3. Disable the Remote Desktop Function

As the name suggests, this function allows you to allow others to access your desktop on another machine. It can be said that in a network environment, such as a LAN, this function is very useful (when the firewall has no restrictions ). For example, if you have a problem, you can ask a colleague for help. Instead of getting to you, you can directly access your machine through remote desktop to help you solve the problem. But at home, there is usually only one computer, and this function is redundant, So Microsoft has given it a new function called "quick User Switching ", that is, you do not need to cancel your user so that another user can register as another user to use your computer. I personally think that this function has some insecure factors, and the computer is not always faulty, so I suggest turning it off, otherwise, you will waste the memory.

Iv. Optimize "visual effect" Settings

Windows XP looks much better in terms of operation interface, but behind it is the cost of consuming a large amount of memory. If your memory is less than MB, you 'd better optimize your "Visual Effects" function. Right-click "my computer", click Properties, click "advanced", click "Settings" in the "performance" column, and click "visual effect ", you can see all the settings of the appearance here. You can manually remove unnecessary functions.

5. Optimize "Startup and fault recovery" Settings

If you find that your hard disk is working hard when your system crashes, it is because Windows XP is writing dump files. For us, if you don't want to send this file to Microsoft (wasting phone bills), what is the use of this file? Therefore, I suggest disabling it. Right-click "my computer", click Properties, and click "advanced". In the "Start and fault recovery" column, click "set ", in the "system failure" column, we recommend that you change it to the settings shown in the figure.

6. Disable the "Error Reporting" Function

When an error occurs in your Windows XP, the system automatically collects some error information and sends it to Microsoft, so that they can improve their operating system (another function that wastes telephone fees and is useless ). I suggest you disable it. If this function is useless to you, why should it occupy your memory? Right-click "my computer", click Properties, click "advanced"> "Error Report", and select "Disable Error Report.

7. Disable the "Internet time synchronization" Function

If synchronization is enabled, your computer clock is synchronized once a week with the Internet time server. I suggest turning it off (a function that is not very useful ). Choose Start> Control Panel> date, time, language, and Region options, and then click Date and Time> Internet time ".

8. Disable redundant services

Every Time Windows XP is started, many services are also started. Some services are useless to many users and occupy the memory. Turning them off is a good choice. Next, let's take a look at which services need to be turned off.

Click "start"> "run" and enter the command "services. msc" to open the "service" dialog box. (Note: You must log on as an administrator or a member of the administrators or Administrators Group to complete the process. If the computer is connected to the network, the network policy setting can also prevent you from completing this step .)

"ClipBook server" (Folder server): This service allows other users on your network to view your folder. Here I strongly recommend that you manually start it and then use other programs to publish information on your network.

"Messenger" (Message): sends and receives messages over the network. If you disable Alerter, you can safely change it to manual start.

"Printer Spooler" (print background handler): If you do not configure a printer, it is recommended to manually start or simply close it.

"Error Reporting Service": Provides error reports when services and applications run in non-standard environments. We recommend that you manually start the instance.

"Fast User Switching Compatibility" (quick User Switching Compatibility): We recommend that you start it manually.

"Automatic Updates" (automatic update): this function has been mentioned earlier. You can start it manually here.

"Net Logon": handles network security features like registration information. You can set it to manual start.

"Network DDE and Network dde dsdm" (Dynamic Data Exchange): unless you want to share your office online, you should change it to manual start. Note: This is different from office in general business settings (if you need DDE, you will know ).

"Nt lm Security Support" (nt lm Security Support Provider): provides security protection for network applications. We recommend that you manually start it.

"Remote Desktop Help Session Manager" (Remote Desktop Help Session Manager): We recommend that you start it manually.

Remote Registry: enables remote users to modify registry settings on this computer. We recommend that you manually start the instance.

"Task Scheduler": enables you to configure and schedule automatic tasks on this computer. It plans weekly fragmentation and so on. Unless you are too lazy and don't even want to open it on your computer, we recommend that you start it manually.

"Uninterruptible power supply": it manages your ups. If you don't have one, start it manually or simply close it.

"Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)" (Windows Image Acquisition (WIA): provides image capture for scanners and cameras. If you do not have these devices, we recommend that you manually start or simply close them.
10. Sort out your memory

Open a text file and insert one of the following: mystring = space (16000000) or mystring = space (80000000). You only need to insert one of them. Save the file as memory. vbs. If you have installed the Visual Basic 4 (or a later version) Running file, you can double-click the program to run it at any time.

The bottom line is for those with at least MB of memory. Of course, everyone should try it first, because it works better in most cases. However, if it causes an error, replace it with the top one (which can be used on any computer with no less than 64 MB memory ).

In addition, we recommend that you close all other programs before running it.

After the preceding settings are modified, press CTRL + ALT + DEL to open the windows Task Manager dialog box and click performance. The memory usage is displayed in the lower right corner, after the above optimization, the memory usage should be several dozen mb. Does it feel a little faster.

Of course, there are still some very familiar methods for memory optimization, such as: Do not use wallpaper, do not use screen saver, etc., here I will not explain them one by one. The above methods should be helpful for friends with insufficient memory.
