One of the most common problems we encounter when using computers is that hard disk space is often insufficient. Especially in the current rapid development of broadband Internet access, the demand for hard disk space is even more urgent. In fact, the hard disk space is often occupied by useless data in the system.

As we all know, the "Disk Cleanup program" provided by Windows XP can find and clear useless files in various locations of the disk, such as lnternet temporary files and recycle bin files. However, it may not be clear that the Prefetch folder in Windows occupies a lot of hard disk space. "Prefetch" refers to the meaning of preextraction, which enables the Windows XP operating system to fully check the startup process and all running programs, so that the system can extract the next unusual data in advance, the advantage is to speed up the runtime. However, each time this operation is performed, the data processing process is required, and the read data is also recorded in the hard disk, and the Prefetch data must be updated, in this way, Windows XP becomes slow and occupies space after running for a period of time.

How can I clear useless information in the operating system? I tried to find a simple and automatic method, that is, simply compile a Script program Script) to effectively clean them up. The procedure is as follows:

1. First run the "Notepad" Notepad) program, because you need to use it to create a script program. Assume that the Windows XP directory is installed in C: \ Windows, and enter the following command line in Notepad (Figure 1 ):

C: \ windows \ system32 \ cleanmgr.exe/dc/sageset: 1
C:
Cd \
Cd c: \ windows \ prefetch
Del *. */q

2. Save the above content as a *. bat file and store it in any location on the hard disk, for example, C: \ cleanup. bat figure 2 ).

3. Run the batch file you just created, and the "Disk Cleanup Settings" is started. Figure 3 ). You can set the project to be cleaned up and select the desired project.

4. Leave "Disk cleanup Settings" and Right-click cleanup. bat icon, select "edit" in the shortcut menu, and change the first line of information to "c: \ windows \ system32 \ cleanmgr.exe/dc/sagerun: 1" Figure 4 ), when this command is run, disk cleanup is automatically executed instead of Disk Cleanup settings ".

5. Finally, save the cleanup. bat file. You can click it to clear the system. As for the last two lines of commands added to the file, the function is to automatically clear all the pre-extracted data in the C: \ windows \ prefetch folder.

6. If you want to automatically run cleanup at a scheduled time. for the effect of bat disk cleanup, you can also go to "Control Panel" → "scheduled task" → "add scheduled task", and then select cleanup. bat file, and arrange different time such as daily, weekly, and monthly execution figure 5), you can achieve the purpose of regular cleaning of the system.
