Wingate FAQ _ Proxy Server

Wingate is a proxy server and firewall package that enables multiple users to access the Internet simultaneously through only one connection. In the process of using it, I collected and summed up some small experience, and now I dedicate to you.

Q: In the client QQ, network ants and the Internet express how to set up?

A: First of all, confirm the Wingate server by default to enable the SOCKS Proxy service, the client in the QQ parameter settings under the Network Settings tab to find the proxy settings, select the "Use SOCKS5 Proxy Server", "Proxy server address" Input Wingate server IP address, The default port is 1080, such as the Wingate server to allow anonymous access without filling the user name and password, press the test button, if you can go online.
The netants and FlashGet settings are similar, find the Proxy tab in the Options settings, add a proxy server, enter the server address, port type, and port number (FTP port defaults to 21). Note that even if the server side does not provide the socks and FTP proxy service, you can use the port of the HTTP proxy (default 80), and then set it to the default proxy server.

Q: Which applications must install the Wingate client program?

A. Programs that require a direct Internet connection and do not support the SOCKS Proxy service (such as NetMeeting) need to install Wingate client software. Once the Wingate client configuration succeeds, the client application should be configured to connect directly to the Internet without requiring the configuration of proxy server parameters. Because only the Wingate server in the LAN has a legitimate WAN IP, you can only call someone when you use NetMeeting, or accept calls from the LAN, and you cannot accept calls from the Internet.

Q: How to send and receive e-mail using OE and foxmail?

A: In the client use OE and Foxmail to receive mail settings easier, the mail program's POP3 server set to the IP address of the Wingate server, pay attention to the POP3 account in the "@" into the word "#", such as your original account is "User@263.net" , change to "user#263.net". However, there are some problems with sending mail, Wingate SMTP proxy can only set a server, that is, you have to find an SMTP server that allows anonymous mail to ensure that users of different mailboxes on the LAN send letters, so it is best to build an SMTP server on your server.

Q: I also use port 80 for IIS installed on the Wingate server, can I change the Wingate WWW service to another port?

A: Yes, as long as it does not conflict with the ports of other servers. In fact, there are other uses to modify the port, such as you do not want to let others use QQ and do not want to affect their use, you can set the socks port on the server to another number. Some people add SMTP ports to solve the problem of sending letters to multiple SMTP servers, but the server and client settings are cumbersome.

Q: Is the cache setting on the Wingate server larger and better?

Answer: No. Because the hard disk is becoming the bottleneck of the whole system, the cache is too large, multiple clients will be able to access the server hard disk congestion, the current mainstream models (Cpu:pⅲ800mhz, Memory: 128MB) According to the number of users and access habits set to 100MB~200MB is enough.

Q: Why can't the content browsed on the server be added to the cache?

A: First, the server must also be the same as the client through the proxy network can be Wingate cache, followed by some Web pages (such as ASP, PHP) need to dynamically access the Internet, under normal circumstances can not be saved in the cache.

Q: How to filter out some bad sites on the Wingate server?

A: You can set up a policy (Policies) on the Wingate server to filter your site. Note, however, that Wingate supports handover from HTTP to socks, so the policy must be applied at the same time in the SOCKS Proxy service. The following example sets a filter for the "Quot;sex" string site.

First step: Establish a policy in WWW Proxy service

Log on to gatekeeper with the administrator, and double-click the WWW Proxy service under the Service (Services) tab for editing. Select the policy (Policies) tab, and in the default rights (System Policies) option, select Ignore (Are ignored). Click Add to select Everyone radio buttons as the user to accept the policy. Click on the Prohibit List tab (Ban list), click on the Open Ban list option (Enable ban list options). Q: After setting up "Use demand dial", why is Wingate dialing when accessing LAN resources?

A: This is caused by the DNS queries requested by the workstation, even if they are on the local network (such as a computer name in the LAN or a shared printer name) that triggers Wingate AutoDial, which can be resolved by preventing DNS from allowing dialing requests. Log on to Gatekeeper by administrator, double-click the DNS service under the System tab, and under the General tab, turn off the Allow start dialing requests (Allow request to initiate) option. Click OK to save the settings.
