Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (extensible Hypertext Markup language,xhtml) is a markup language that behaves like a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), but is more restrictive in syntax. In terms of inheritance, HTML is an application that is based on standard General-purpose subscript language (SGML) and is a very flexible set-up language, while XHTML is based on extensible Labeling Language (XML), which is a subset of SGML. XHTML 1.0 became the recommended standard for the world on January 26, 2000.
