At the beginning of this time, my mentor dedicated me to a small project on information extraction that led me to get started. After the internship, I will continue to work in this direction as a graduate student in Peking University. I am Yu Jingjing, from Tianjin University information and communication Engineering, is now a PhD in second grade. During the period of reading, I practiced in Microsoft Research Asia Nethord from August 2011 to August 2012 and July 2013 to the present. During this period of internship, I mainly engaged in image compression and recovery research.

When I was in the second year of Graduate school, the first topic I came into contact with during my internship was the cloud-based image storage, which uses a large number of images on the network side to improve the compression performance. This project made me feel the unprecedented challenge, but also made me grow fast.

My mentor, Sun Xiaoyan, has given me a lot of help in the course of researching the subject. She gave me encouragement and guidance when I was most overwhelmed, so that I could step forward and remind me not to give up; in writing an ACM multimedia paper, I and Xiao Yan, Li Can (with the group of interns) together to fight to 0 points, Then the Wu, who was the chief researcher at the time, Microsoft Research Asia to help revise the paper after midnight. Wu Teacher Hachaoyan as a guide in carrying me on the road of scientific research step-by-step, the process they not only grant me fish, but also granted me fishing. So in the later research work, I can quickly find the breach of the problem, and the relevant work will soon be published.

The process of cultivating silently in scientific research is fulfilling and fruitful at the same time. I had published two journal papers in the first year of my PhD (Trans. On Image processing and Trans. On multimedia) and 3 conference papers (ACM Multimedia, ICME, Iscas, etc.). It is also because I have achieved good results with my peers in image processing and coding based on cloud media, and I have received the 2013 "Microsoft Scholar" Scholarship. The publication of papers and the acquisition of scholarships gave me great glory, but they also spur me, is my scientific research on the road to strive for a powerful driving force.

In Tianjin University and Microsoft Research Asia nearly nine years, I from a ignorant college students, into a first into the road of scientific research "scholar", the end of doctoral career, does not mean that my own scientific research end, in my upcoming career, do the best of their own, let the world because of me and different.

Cross-disciplinary experience unique and exciting

I am Liu Mengyun, from Wuhan University surveying and Mapping remote sensing Information Engineering State Key Laboratory, professional is photogrammetry and remote sensing. This major may sound more biased, but in fact it is closely related to the lives of everyone, such as daily use of maps, satellite positioning and navigation, and relies on the technical support provided by this discipline. I started my internship in 能 in November 2014 and participated in the development of an indoor positioning and navigation application. This internship experience for the institute was very meaningful to me, and I got a great boost in my professional skills and broadened my horizons to open a new door for my future research and career.

The sophomore chance of an elective course, let me start to contact mobile phone development. Because my major is not a computer, and the college related courses are relatively few, so about most of the computer knowledge I self-taught. The internship at the institute gave me the opportunity to learn more computer knowledge. On the way to learning computer, I am no longer isolated. In the course of the internship of the Institute, in addition to the completion of the project work, I will often listen to some research or technical lectures. These lectures are recommended by a field of Daniel or senior researcher, and are the welfare of the Institute's interns. Some of them introduce the research progress of a technology, some of which is to introduce work or research methods. No matter which theme, each time gave me a kind of "up posture" feeling.

Of course, in addition to studying and working, a very important part of me is the various activities of the Institute. Here, I have reaped joy and friendship, gained knowledge and vision, and harvested the philosophy of life and the Poetry of Song Fu. As a noisy person, internship the next day I joined the Microsoft Research Asia two major organizations: Rice ball and board game club. There are new and old interns from various groups, and I quickly adapted to the life of the Institute while playing happily. The Game Club organizes board games every Tuesday night, and the little friends get together and laugh while they play. The first time I took part in the board games, I was very formal, but after a game everyone became familiar with each other and began to crush IQ and EQ. For me, whether it's rice balls or board games, it's a good place to meet friends. In addition to daily meals and board games, the two organizations organize many other activities. such as the weekend to go skating, skiing, cooking together, including dumplings. When we learned that we could attend the annual meeting of the company, we were all very happy and excited, and understood the importance of arranging the program well. Perhaps, many people think that taking part in these activities is a waste of time and energy, especially as a person who is ready to engage in scientific research and technology, we seem to put our energies in the wrong place.
