Zend provides PHP solutions for Java

Zend technology has developed an application to replace PHP, hoping that it can gradually transfer some failed Java programmers, including those web and enterprise dependent on Java.

Zend's main supervisor and co-founder Andi Gutmans claimed that the server had reached its limit in five years. It has created a Zend architecture and integrated with Windows, Oracle, and IBM databases. It also has an Eclipse PHP plug-in project that provides a more refined runtime experience and supports Eclipse-based plug-in tools for developers.

In the next stage, Gutmans, the newly appointed CEO, focuses on cloud computing. Gutmans said that Reg is a Zend framework that can handle internal and external virtualization and packaging problems of the firewall. In the next year, the development of cloud computing will be smoother. Although the Zend framework is Amazon APIs and plans to support Microsoft's Azure.

However, with today's application servers, Zend is more than just the goal of thousands of programmers who want to use PHP to create web and commercial applications. Gutmans wants Zend to change the mindset of individual people, so that they no longer think that Java has become unmanageable and that they can find a paid Java enterprise-level version (Java EE) program.

The company has joined the Open Source group, such as SpringSource, Red Hat's Jboss and Caucho. A long time ago, I realized the setbacks brought by the use of Java EE battle-ship application servers, such as IBM WebSphere and Oracle WebLogic. They switched to OSGi to develop small Java application server frameworks with standard components.

Although the Zend server is characterized as a bridge between Java and OSGi, Gutmans says OSGi is "over-Java-centric ". Instead, it provides an application server that uses REST and XML over HTTP. He believes this is easier to operate than Java, because various types of PHP are everywhere.

Like many open-source companies, Gutmans believes that the recession will accelerate PHP penetration. Therefore, the Zend server team strives to find a Java developer who can afford to create or maintain web servers, there are also Java EE applications for settlement.

Zend is the right choice. The only question is whether it can successfully render Java engineers irrational and whether Zend and PHP can become more mature choices than Java EE.

Bill Peer, an enterprise decision maker in IHG, said that his large number of systems are evenly divided into application servers. At IBM, BEA or Oracle consultants will help drive the rationality of IHG, which has the right to use code and the ability to avoid unnecessary overhead and delays.

"We work with a new group and they have never used Resin," said Peer. "They are very excited because they can see internal links. You no longer need the super consultants to help solve the problem. ."

In other respects, IHG has selected Terracotta's open source code for Java to run the reservation program Retention System for 4,000 hotels worldwide. The system is distributed and data is retained. Users no longer need to rely on a single, slow, centralized host. Furthermore, for Peer, it is mainly the right to use Terracotta code. It can be used together with the existing Java and open-source knowledge of IHG developers to create a system.

"Terracotta is better equipped-we need to start and attack the Java Virtual Machine and sync, instead of staying in the center and the download-based service," said Peer. "Many of us are like a clown, it's like a code curse.

I gave Gutmans an IHG example. He believes that PHP can provide more companies, such as learning Java EE advantages, developing small software and open-source platforms.

Although the main reader of the Zend Server is a PHP programmer who mainly creates basic Web applications, Gutmans believes that PHP plays an important role in the enterprise. Due to the existence of PHP applications, it is like a Drupal and knodge DGE Tree designed for enterprise Directory management and document management. These projects can fully consider the internal logic structure and features of the product for compilation, and can be expanded using PHP.

"We see that many of our major customers start with applications, such as Drupal, Magento, or knodge DGE Tree. They use this extension," he said.

The company's Zend server Community version can compile Linux, Windows and OS X, PHP with improved performance, Java connectivity, and administrator interface features. The Zend server can provide similar services except for automatic software upgrades, patches, Linux security patches, and Microsoft's Windows (MSI). the renewal fee starts from $1,195 in one to three years. PHP patches can also be used in the Community, but not now -- the next PHP version is released.

Finally, PHP and Windows are not integrated. one fact that hurts PHP and Windows is that 50% of PHP is deployed on Windows because of its slow performance.

"People know a good PHP application, and they can download and use it," Gutmans said. "Five Years Ago, PHP was everywhere, but it lacked the maturity and ability to work collaboratively and could not become the mainstream in the IT industry, but now aPHP has become the mainstream ".
