Juniper Networks recently released its first mobile Trust Index Survey. The survey shows that most people do not fully trust the mobile technology they are currently using.

A global survey of 4,037 mobile device users and IT decision makers (ITDMs) in China, Japan, the United States, Britain and Germany found that consumers' trust in Mobile Security, it cannot keep pace with the popularization of mobile devices and services.

According to this survey, 42% of Chinese consumers have 5 or more devices, and 96% use mobile devices to access key data such as work-related information. The survey also found that IT policy makers are facing the pressure to allow personal devices to access the enterprise environment, which is also known as the "self-built device Office (BYOD)" trend.

Wang Wei, Technical Director of zhanbo networks Greater China, said: "The development trend of 'self-built equipment office 'has added new concerns to IT managers. Especially in China, we found that many employees did not follow the company's rules on the use of mobile devices, and consumers were facing a large number of mobile security threats. The reality is that consumers' and enterprises' trust in mobile security cannot keep up with the large-scale popularization of smart mobile devices and services. Creating a safer and more reliable mobile experience requires the concerted and long-term efforts of all parties ."

Dan Hoffman, Chief mobile security lecturer at zhanbo Network, said, "Building Trust in mobile technology is just as important as building large-scale networks and powerful applications. To create a safer, more secure, and trusted Mobile Experience, mobile operators, device manufacturers, software developers, network companies, and security experts must continuously work together ."

China's security threats are grim, and consumer trust is low

The survey results show that only 16% of Chinese respondents are very confident in the security of their mobile devices and services, and 20% have little or no confidence in this. Similar to the global average, 63% of respondents are uncertain about whether to trust their mobile experience.

China's mobile security situation is the most severe. The security threats that Chinese users experience may be the cause of lack of confidence. 74% of the consumers surveyed suffered at least one security vulnerability threat, and the global average of this data was 48%. In addition, 25% of commercial consumers (consumers who use at least one mobile device for commercial purposes) have experienced smartphone theft, and the global average of this data is only 14%.

The investigation also found that as long as a small security vulnerability exists or is hypothetical, it can change the majority of Chinese consumers (73%) use mobile devices or make them discard certain mobile services completely. In the face of similar information security problems, 69% of users will stop using online banking, 48% of users will no longer send private messages, and 48% of users will stop browsing medical information, 43% of users will no longer view work-related information.

Key stakeholders of mobile Trust

Consumers in China Listed network security (80%), application privacy (53%), and network reliability (49%) as the biggest factor affecting the trust of mobile devices.

The survey also found that 66% of consumers interviewed believed that operators were responsible for protecting users' sensitive data, followed by device manufacturers (60% ), only 11% of respondents regard this as a personal responsibility of the user.

IT decision makers are facing BYOD pressure

In China, more than 3/4 of individual and commercial consumers use mobile devices to access sensitive data through email, Intranet, and employee services. At the same time, many employees do not follow the company's official mobile device Regulations-39% of commercial consumers use their mobile devices for work without the company's permission.

According to the survey, 69% of Chinese enterprises suffered security threats due to employees' "self-built devices" accessing enterprise data, and the global average of this data was 30%. 74% of IT policy makers in China are increasingly feeling the pressure to allow personal devices to access the enterprise network. Different from other countries surveyed, respondents are facing a top-down distribution in China. 36% of the data comes from top management personnel, and only 10% are from ordinary employees.
