RISC Itanium UNIX servers continued to be cold around the world in the first quarter of 2014-shipments were down by 19.9% and vendor revenues were down 16.9% from a year earlier. And in other CPU classes, that is, mainframe-oriented devices, the revenue level is significantly higher than the previous year diving 37.6%. The x86 blade server has fallen 3.9% per cent year-on-year in shipments, but this quarter's revenue is up 5.2% from a year earlier. In the first quarter of 2014, rack-optimized equipment increased by 1.4% in terms of shipments, and revenue rose by 1.7%.
HP is leading the global server market in revenue in the first quarter of 2014. The company made a total of 2.9 billion dollars in revenue this quarter, accounting for 25.5% of global revenue. But that percentage shrank by 2.3% compared with the first quarter of 2013. Hewlett-Packard accounted for 22.6% of the overall global share of shipments, followed by Dell, which accounts for 19.7%. Of the top five manufacturers of global shipments, only Huawei and wave electronics achieved shipments in the first quarter of 2014, with growth of 61% and 288.7% respectively. This is also the first time that wave Electronics has ranked among the top five of global server shipments.
In the first quarter of 2014, HP, despite a small decline in server shipments, still achieved a whopping 5.1% per cent growth in its revenue share. This is due to HP's own improvement in operational efficiency and, on the other hand, its rivals ' embarrassing situation. The second-ranked IBM continues to be plagued by a weak product cycle, while its 8.7% contraction also stems from the slump in the entire x86 business market. Dell, the third-most-ranked company, failed to reproduce its strong and dazzling performance in the first quarter of 2013.
