Agilent Technology (Agilent Technologies) announced a partnership agreement with the China Institute of Mobile Communications (CMRI). China Mobile is the world's largest operator of internet operations and a market leader in developing 3G and next-generation wireless networks.
Two companies have signed a memorandum of cooperation in Beijing to jointly develop the next generation Cloud Wireless access Network (C-ran) technology and test methods. C-ran is a new network design method that uses a centralized, collaborative, cloud wireless access network to create an environment-friendly and cost-effective intelligence network. Agilent and Cmri believe the project will bring new web design standards to the wireless network industry in China and around the world.
The new C-ran architecture is expected to include a wide range of wireless communication standards, such as GSM, TD-SCDMA, LTE and td-lte-advanced, which focus signal processing operations on the cloud through high-speed fibre links and support a base station using 8 antennas, Coordinated multicast and reception (CoMP), and a general-purpose processor that handles wireless data.
"Our partnership with CMRI in the C-ran project will allow Agilent and Cmri to lead the industry in developing new architectures and testing methods needed to achieve long-term success in the entire industrial value chain," said Zhang Zhiming, director-general of Taiwan's Agilent technology and electronic measurement group. This collaboration will assist C-ran developers to solve stringent technical problems before designing the network and to troubleshoot in the central office before C-ran is built on site. 」
Cmri, chief scientist, Dr. Chihlin I points out that "c-ran is a green wireless access network dominated by mobile communications in China to achieve large capacity, low cost and high power efficiency. With the help of Agilent technology, the world's largest testing and measuring instrument manufacturer, C-ran has formed a complete industrial chain from communications vendors to it vendors, test makers and mobile communications operators, and is confident that C-ran will soon be able to achieve it. 」
This strategic partnership will use Agilent's expertise in defining radio (software tabbed radio) in wireless test solutions and software. Agilent's 8-day Td-scdma/td-lte beam-forming measurement solution, which will support comp measurements directly in C-ran, is expected to become one of the core functions of the new network. In addition, Agilent will provide a base-frequency measurement solution to perform wireless signal attenuation simulation and analysis, and assist C-ran developers to test the performance of new baseband devices in the cloud. Agilent and the Chinese mobile Communications research team, also plans to explore the general processor data processing and measurement capabilities.
Agilent's collaboration with CMRI on the C-ran project also reflects the firm commitment of Agilent to support China's industry leaders in developing next-generation wireless technologies. Agilent plans to set up a task force at its Research and Development center in Beijing to work with CMRI and other vendors involved in the C-ran program.
