Asian tech companies are sharing HP, Dell and IBM's Cloud Lunch

HP, Dell and IBM are struggling to improve server shipments due to low cost and competitive competition from professional suppliers, according to Gartner, a market research firm.

The latest global server Market report, released last week, depicts a bleak picture of the global data center market, where overall revenue fell 2.8% per cent in the third quarter, and overall shipments grew by only a poor 3.6%.

Low-cost Suppliers

This pile of more substantial evidence suggests that original equipment makers will lose their edge because of the rise of cloud computing.

In the third quarter of 2008, "other suppliers" shipped 629864 sets of equipment, and HP, the market leader, sent out 724024 sets. By contrast, in the third quarter of 2012, "other suppliers" shipped 846734 servers, while HP shipped 634793 units, although it was still one of the largest server companies.

Giants struggle

The trend of the war has become increasingly apparent over the past few years, with "other manufacturers" shipments steadily increasing each year, while competition from typical corporate giants (Dell, Hewlett-Packard and IBM) has also contributed to the growth of their shipments.
