Microelectronics industry standard agency JEDEC Solid State Technology Association finally released the next generation of synchronous DDR memory technical standards: DDR4, its data transmission speed will be faster than DDR3, and power consumption is lower. "The announcement of JEDEC's DDR4 technical standards was the result of years of effort by memory, system, component and module manufacturers around the world," said Joe Macri, chairman of JEDEC's Jc-42.3dram Memory committee.
"The new standards make the next-generation system better performing, significantly improving package density and reliability while having lower power consumption," Macri said.
DDR4 a single memory granular capacity 2GB-16GB, while providing three data widths x4, x8, x16, maximum data transfer speed of 3.2gb/s, but Jetec said the future with the development of standards will continue to increase. In addition, the power consumption of DDR4 will be lower and the 1.2V voltage will be used instead of 1.5V DDR3.
DDR4 is not expected to be popular until 2015.
Although Samsung and other manufacturers have previously created different specifications of DDR4 memory samples, the final release of the standard will urge them to expand production. According to market analysis, Isuppli expects DDR4 to get a bigger market share by 2014, but 2015 should account for half of all the DRAM sold.
"The release of DDR4 technology standards is a milestone for next-generation DRAM production," said Robert Feurle, vice president of the US-light dram market. "Higher performance, lower power consumption makes DDR4 an attractive storage solution for next-generation businesses and consumer products," he said, "and we look forward to bringing the technology to market." ”
