April 16, 2013, Beijing-Hewlett-Packard today launched the world's first commercial HP lunar system (HP moonshot systems), saving 89% more energy than traditional servers, saving up 80% of space, and reducing costs by 77%, further improving the economic benefits of infrastructure.

At present, many data centers are difficult to expand further, subject to the economic benefits of traditional infrastructure. The HP Moon-landing server is the first step in a corporate breakthrough.

"Currently, nearly 10 billion devices are connected to the Internet and are growing exponentially," said Whitman, Hewlett-Packard's president and http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/32086.html "> Chief executive. We have reached a turning point-traditional technology has not been able to meet the needs of space, energy and cost. The HP lunar system marks the beginning of a new it pattern that will transform the economy of the infrastructure and lay a solid foundation for the next 20 billion devices networking. ”

HP innovation realizes energy saving, space saving and cost reduction

For decades, HP has been the leader in defining the next generation computing platform.

More than 20 years ago, HP successfully launched the first commercial UNIX server--HP 9000 Series 840, and the x86 server--HP SystemPro. More than 10 years ago, HP won the first batch of Blade server architecture patents. HP has maintained a leading position in the x86 server market for the past 16 years.

With the fundamental transformation and development of the basic idea, HP continues to break through the limits of technology and innovation, paving the way for the first software definition server. The software definition server enables organizations to optimize servers based on specific load requirements. HP's lunar system has made great strides in terms of energy consumption, footprint, cost and simplicity, thanks to HP's industry-leading Server intellectual property (IP) and the company's core research and development agency, Hewlett-Packard Labs, 10 years of extensive research.

Designed for the data center and built for the Earth's ecology

The new HP Lunar system is the second generation server for the HP Moon Program (Project moonshot). This new type of server is designed to address the IT challenges of social, cloud, mobile, and large data. The HP Moon-landing server (HP moonshot servers) uses chips commonly used in smartphones and tablets, allowing servers to reduce energy consumption, increase deployment densities, and significantly reduce costs.

The HP lunar system consists of the HP Moon-landing series server 1500 (HP moonshot 1500) chassis and the HP ProLiant Moon series server (HP ProLiant moonshot servers) optimized for application. These servers use a variety of processors from HP partners for specific workloads.

With the ability to support up to 1800 servers per rack, the HP Lunar series servers require only one-eighth of the traditional servers. This helps solve the physical space problem in the datacenter. (3) Each chassis share includes the traditional components of Internet grid, HP integrated Lights-Out (ILO) management, power supply and cooling fan. These shared components reduce complexity and help reduce energy consumption and footprint.

The first HP ProLiant Lunar series server with Intel? Ling S1200 processor (Intel?) Atom S1200 processor), supports web hosting load. HP Moon-Landing Server 1500 is a 4.3U server chassis that can load up to 45 Intel platform based servers, a network switch, and support components.

Growing industry-leading technology partner ecosystem

HP also announced a complete roadmap for the load-optimized HP ProLiant Moon-Landing series servers, which are based on HP's extensive partner ecosystem, including AMD, Appliedmicro, Calxeda, Intel and Texas Instruments.

The new HP ProLiant Moon landing series server, scheduled to be released in the second half of 2013, will support emerging web, cloud and large-scale computing environments, as well as computational analysis and telecommunications. Future servers will be used for large data, high-performance computing, gaming, financial services, genomics, facial recognition, video analysis and other applications.

"In the face of the constraints from energy efficiency and the need to analyze computational capabilities generated to support the world's leading geological research," said Chris Hill, chief research engineer at MIT, and the Massachusetts Green High-performance computing research and education Group, We absolutely need technological innovation as a leading company like HP. The innovations in HP's lunar mission have convinced us that infrastructure can continue to scale out, supporting fundamentally never-ending computing needs-all based on less energy, less space, more integration and lower cost. ”

HP's IT department has used the HP Moon-landing server to support the HP.com Web site, which has about 3 million visits a day.

"The test results show that the moon-landing server running in HP.com reached our expectations, with energy consumption equivalent to 12 60 watt bulbs, becoming a game-changer," said John Hinshaw, Hewlett-Packard's executive vice president of technology and operations. We are excited about these results and plan to deploy more applications to the lunar system, leading to new changes in the data center area. ”
