This article is a guide to installing and setting up lighttpd and PHP in dapper (translator Note: Other versions are basically applicable). LIGHTTPD or "Lighty" is a Web server with very little resource consumption.

Skills Required:

Open Terminal
Create a file
Edit configuration file

Install Required Packages: (There may not be any packages included, but these two packages will automatically download other dependent dependencies)

sudo apt install lighttpd php5

Edit configuration file/etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf deletes the # of the following line:

#include "mod_fastcgi.conf"

Add File Now/etc/lighttpd/mod_fastcgi.conf

Server.modules + + ("mod_fastcgi")
Fastcgi.server = = (". php" ==>
("localhost" =>
(
"Host" => "127.0.0.1",
"Port" => 1026,
"Bin-path" => "/usr/bin/php-cgi"
