Manual method: Every time you need to run the X Terminal GUI application, start the X terminal by running the STARTX command in VGA console mode. Remember to return to the text-based console once you log out.
[Root@bigboy tmp]# StartX
Automatic method: You can allow Linux to automatically load the X terminal GUI interface each time you log on, unless you restart the system with the init command. As mentioned in the previous article, you need to edit the Initdefault variable in the/etc/inittab file to maintain these features after the system restarts.
[Root@bigboy tmp]# Init 5
When your machine's CPU performance or available memory is low, or you need to maximize your resources, most of the time you need to run the system in RunLevel 3 text mode and, if necessary, start the GUI with the StartX command.
Whether as a personal workstation or a server, a machine can run for a long time, and a non-skilled employee may need to run it at run Level 5 through the init 5 command. Remember, you can modify the/etc/initab file to keep the system running at run Level 5, even if it is restarted.
