Vodafone Portugal announced that it would complete the deployment of 3GPP R8 standard HSPA technology on its network by May 2010, with the goal of launching a commercial 43.2Mbps HSPA upgrade business by the end of the year, with related equipment deployed by Ericsson and Qualcomm recently. The 43.2Mbps HSPA upgrade announcement, completed in the second quarter of 2010, was released after Vodafone Portugal successfully demonstrated the 43.2Mbps peak downlink rate, and also said the uplink rate was up to 11Mbps. While Vodafone Portugal's network is expected to be upgraded in the second quarter of 2010, its first compatible USB device will be commercially available by the end of 2010, and the first 43Mbps-backed handset could be extended to mid-2011.
