Beijing time February 1 morning news, according to foreign media reports, GlobalFoundries Company's largest shareholder, Abu Dhabi state Sovereign Investment Fund atic (Advanced Marvell Investment) said in Thursday, GlobalFoundries will capture 30% of the global chip foundry industry's market share within three years. Atic CEO Ibrahim Ajami (Ibrahim Ajami) in a media interview in Thursday, said: "I set the goal is too radical?" That's true. We need to be a 5 billion dollar business in the next years. "GlobalFoundries was spun off by AMD's manufacturing operations, and later increased capacity through atic last year's takeover of the Singapore Concession Semiconductor. If it did capture 30% of the world's chip foundry market share, GlobalFoundries will become the world's second largest chipmaker after TSMC. Chen Liwei, an analyst at Polaris Securities in Taiwan, said: "GlobalFoundries has no track record in the industry and it is not easy to achieve this goal." This is a very radical goal. He reckons that GlobalFoundries is currently in the global chip foundry industry with a market share of about 15%, while Tsu and TSMC share 20% and 50% respectively. GlobalFoundries's statement of January 13 this year showed that the company's 2009-year merger with the franchise was more than $2 billion trillion. Tsu and TSMC's 2009-year income were 2.8 billion dollars and 9 billion dollars respectively. Qualcomm, the world's largest handset chip maker, said on January 7 that it would work with GlobalFoundries to develop chips using 28 nm and 45 nm, the most advanced technology at the moment. Kevin Smith, the chip designer Arm vice president, said September 29 last year that the company was also discussing chip production with GlobalFoundries. Ajami said atic would not buy GlobalFoundries's remaining shares and was not prepared to buy Tsu or the South Korean sea-Guinness. "This is not in line with our current strategy," he said. TSU is Taiwan's chip foundry, and we are not ready to invest there. The company is a memory chip manufacturer, and memory chips are not the focus of our current development. (PEI)
