Big data start-up Adatao has completed a 13 million dollar a round of financing by Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture and Bloomberg, Andreessen Horowitz's Peter Levine will join the company's board of directors, while Marc Andreessen will be the company's advisor.
Adatao software is based on the Spark memory data processing architecture to speed data processing. Christopher Nguyen, CEO of Google's Apps engineering director, said:
One of the most important thing I've learned in Google is that the 5-second and 5-minute gap is no more than 60 times times, but infinity.
The Adatao user interface is easy to use, using Apache Spark, users can view any data connected to the Adatao, and can ask the database engineer to find out the possible causal relationship behind the data through machine learning algorithms. Adatao also allows multiple users to view datasets at the same time, as with Google Docs.
Adatao provides APIs to simplify the work of database programmers, querying data using a number of commonly used languages such as Python, SQL, Scala, and Java, and some complex statistical code such as R and SAS can be simplified into one line. Adatao also provides natural language queries, which allow users to compare data by entering text.
Peter Levine, who joins the Adatao board, believes that 90% of the data available in the world are created in the last two years, and that more data means better decisions, better treatments, safer environments and more accurate predictions. But after collecting and storing large amounts of data, our ability to analyze and use the data has encountered bottlenecks. Adatao can be simplified, combining large calculation with large data, in a simple and exquisite user interface for real-time, flexible, interactive large data analysis.
Adatao's co-founder and CEO, Christopher Nguyen, has a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University PhD and UC Berkeley, and has been awarded "Google Founders Award". Other team members are also engineers or PhDs in parallel systems and machine learning.
Next, Adatao will further expand its business and collaborate with more companies interested in running Adatao on their cloud platforms.
